ACCEPTED PRACTICES AND GUIDELINES

(As amended and adopted on March 25, 1996, by the Blair County Junior Livestock Committee)

These guidelines are prepared for you, the contestants and exhibitors in the Blair County Junior Livestock Show and Sale. These guideline pertain to all species of animals participating in the annual show and sale.

1.All animals shall be owned by the club/chapter member.

2.Animals should be housed and cared for at a location as near to the member’s home as practical. If animals are housed away from the member’s residence, the member is encouraged to participate in their care and training on a regular basis.

3.Animals may be purchased any time prior to the official project starting date, but after that date, animals can no longer be switched, substituted, or replaced. Positive identification will be required at the project starting date or a time agreed upon by the committee in charge.

4.Professional fitting and grooming are prohibited. Professional health care and hoof trimming is permitted.

5.Animals are to be shown by the owner/member. If there is a good and valid reason for a member not being able to show his/her own animal (including the member’s absence or physical disability), a substitute showman may be used, provided that the substitute is a member of the same livestock club. In addition, the substitute showman must be the same age or younger as the animal’s owner. Substitutes are permitted only in type classes. No substitutes are permitted in showmanship and fitting competition.

6.In the event of an unruly animal, additional help may be used in the show ring to insure safety.

7.All animals shown in competition at the show are required to be sold as market animals for slaughter at the sale.

8.Project animals consigned to the show but not shown may be sold at the sale.

9.All project animals participating in the show and sale are the responsibility of the owner until sold.

10.All animals must be of sound health and condition at the time of the show and sale. Animals with clinical signs of disease and infection will not be permitted on the grounds. Any animals treated with antibiotics and/or other drugs prior to the show/sale must have been withdrawn from the drug(s) within the legal time required for sale as per the medication’s label instructions. Violations of this rule will be the seller’s responsibility.

11.Any violations of these rules may be acted upon by the Junior Livestock Committee.
