Date / Deadlines and Expectations / Action
August 30, 2016 / Review the Extended Essay Guidebook, Expectations, and Rubric for scoring. The Extended Essay process begins inTOK class through which we will discuss the timeline for submissions, school and IB expectations, and an overview of requirements.Each candidate should read the Guidebook prior to coming to class the first day, and familiarize themselves with the subject areas. It is not too early to begin considering topics for your essays. You will submit three possible research topics within the first week of school.
ALL SUBMISSIONS ARE GRADES IN TOK both Year One and Year Two. / Develop 3 research questions for possible topics-
September 15, 2016 / GOOGLE DRIVE FOLDER. Prior to class …Create a folder in Google Drive, label with LAST EE (e.g. Doe EE) and share with TOK teacher.
Submit three possible research topics and discipline. If you choose World Studies, which 2 or 3 disciplines will you include in your research?Also, include a rationale for choosing this topic. Narrow focus to one topic and develop draft research question.
SELECT SUPERVISOR and make contact as soon as possible, and share your Google Folder with that instructor. / Required
October 1, 2016 / Submit your Supervisor and Signed Extended Essay Subject Area Contract to TOK Teacher, and submit your subject area and research question.
Students must schedule first meeting with their advisor prior to November 1 on topic clarification and research approach. / Form A

October 15, 2016 / Submit Working Outline to Supervisor with minimum of 5 sup-topics for research in MLA format. / Form B
November 1-10, 2016 / Meet with Supervisor/Coordinator through TOK and document / Form D
November 15, 2016 / Formal Outline with detail showing advanced development and research. / Form D
December 15, 2016 / Introduction and Background – 750 word minimum, with Research Question, Thesis statement, and evidence of research included and cited. / Form D
January 27, 2017 / Progress check (1500 word minimum) and confirmation of meeting with Supervisor / Form D
February 28, 2017 / Draft Check … (2000 word minimum) and confirmation of meeting with Supervisor / Form D
April 28, 2017 / First Draft due to Coordinator to assign to Supervisor / Form D
April 28 – May 15 / Supervisors meet withcandidates to review First Draft and discuss a plan for summer research. / Form D

IB Year Two Timeline

August 11-12, 20117 / EE Lock-In: Media Center. Candidates should bring their research materials with them. Supervisors will be available for consultation, but they will NOT read your papers. / Optional
September 25, 2017 / Second Draft (3200 to 4000 words): Students must submit a hard copy of the draft, and schedule times to meet with advisor / Form D
November 2, 2017 / Final Extended Essay: Submit to advisors one copy of EE for marking
Candidates who have not submitted EEs are not eligible for exams. November 15 all candidates will be registered for exams, however, any candidate who has failed to submit an extended essay or failed to meet the expectations will no longer be eligible to sit for exams. / Form D
December 1-15, 2017
(Scheduled over a 2 week period) / Viva Voce: Supervisors will conduct a short interview with the candidate
Theviva voce serves the following purposes:
• A check on plagiarism and malpractice in general
• An opportunity to reflect on successes and difficulties in the
research process

January 2018 / Complete EE Cover Sheet: Students submit two clean, hard copies to their Supervisors.
February 1, 2018 / Supervisors submit completed EE Cover Sheet with all copies of final extended essay and predictedgrade to the DP Coordinator. / Extended Essay mailed to IB examiners
