Instructors and TA's have already posted example video biographical essays.

You are encouraged to watch other classmates’ bios. This assignment should be completed in the VoiceThread portion of eLearning. Please read the full directions below prior to starting to create your VoiceThread video biography. It may be helpful to print these directions and have them handy as you navigate through the VoiceThread site.

Step-by-step instructions for posting your video biography on VoiceThread

  1. Click on the following link to join the Plant Propagation Group in e-Learning.
  2. You will be prompted to answer a question as to whether or not you have a valid UFL GatorLink ID and Password. Click Yes, Sign in with UFL GatorLink ID.
  3. Enter your GatorLink username (ID) and password in the spaces provided and clickLogin.
  4. You will now see a video screen with a text box asking you to add a picture to this identity. This step is optional and the instructions to do so are listed at the end of these instructions. If you do not wish to add a profile picture, proceed to step 5 below.
  5. Click the Create tab located between the “Browse” and “MyVoice” tabs at the top of the window.
  6. Click Uploadand select My Webcam. An Adobe Flash Player settings box may appear within the recording box askingfor your permissionto access your webcam and microphone, click Allow.
  7. Click the Video Icon to start recording. A quick countdown will begin from 3, 2, 1, recording!
  8. Record a quick video introduction about yourself. When you are done recording, click the Stop button. Your video will slide off to the right of the page and then behind the recording box. Click on the Close X in the upper right-hand corner of the recording window.
  9. Next, click on the MyVoice tab next to “Create”. A box will appear asking you to name your video. Enter your Full Name (Ex. John Smith) and type Biography in the description box and then click Save.
  10. Hover over the video icon for the video you just made (You should see your smiling face) and click on it and drag it into the group on the left-hand side of the page entitled Plant Propagation – Fall 2014.
  11. A small window will pop up informing you that you have shared your biography with the group. Double-check to be sure that you have successfully shared your video within the group by clicking on the group “Plant Propagation – Fall 2014” and looking for your video Again, you should see your smiling face  (If you don’t see your video there, repeat step #10). Your video biography is now shared with the entire class and this assignment is Done!

*We strongly encourage you to view other participants’ video biographies to “get to know” your fellow students and professors in the class. It’s fun! To do so, just click on the course link under groups and you will see all the biographies posted. Click on one that interests you and then click the play button. Enjoy!

**If at any time you feel you need further assistance within VoiceThread, you can click on the “Tutorials” link on the lefthand side of your “MyVoice” page just above where the course group is listed. You can also click on the “Training Classes” link on the VoiceThread home page and/or the “VoiceThread Support” link also on the VoiceThread home page where you will find answers to frequently asked questions.

***To return to VoiceThread at a later date, go to the e-Learning website and Login to VoiceThread as you have previously done. The login button is the last item listed under “Teaching Tools”.

How to add a profile picture to your VoiceThread account:

  • Click on the text box that is asking you to add a photo to your identity.
  • Select Upload and select a photo of yourself that is saved on your computer.
  • Once your photo has been uploaded, you will be able to move the selection window around to crop your photo as you like. Once you are satisfied with your photo appearance, click on the Save button with the green check mark next to it.
  • You have now created your profile picture for VoiceThread!
  • If you would like, you can click the play button to hear the quick introduction about VoiceThread that is provided by the university.
