Mr. Nash- World History
Heritage Academy-Laveen
2018-2019
World History Curriculum
This course is designed to tell stories of the ancient world up to modern times. The purpose is to understand the people and places that influenced, inflicted and shaped each other.
We, as a class, will attempt to understand the progress of civilizations and understand why some civilizations advanced dramatically and others did not. We will look at how the inhabitants of the world interacted with each other and how those people might have felt when significant events happened.
We will endeavor to understand ancient governments, societies, religions and cultures to be better citizens of the world. The class will seek to help scholars understand how our current society has been influenced by civilizations that preceded us in everyday life such as money, language, family relations and current government systems.
Absences
Consistent attendance will be one of the most important factors in your academic success this year. If scholars are absent they must make up the work according to a strict timeline (one day grace period for each day absent). It is the student’s responsibility to pick up any missing assignments. No citizenship points will be awarded when absent.
Punctuality
You are considered tardy if you are not in your seat working on the bell work when the bell rings. Half of your citizenship points for the day are lost when tardy. Repeated tardiness will result in a log entry and call/email home.
Participation
This is an interactive course. Students are required to take notes, participate in classroom discussions, contribute to current events, and engage in speaking activities. Participation is a graded element for the class.
Late Work
No late assignments will be accepted. Any exceptions to this rule will be made on a case-by-case basis.
Retakes
Any test or quiz with a score of less than 80% may be retaken for full credit.
