3.August 1997 to April 1999 (Two Years)
Worked as an Urban Planner in an Action Research Project of Intermediate cities for Sustainable Urban Environmental Management, based on Mingora city, a joint venture of IUED, Geneva University Switzerland and Environmental Protection Society (EPS) Swat.
Responsibilities:
- Highlighting urban problems in Mingora city and to guide Municipality to solve these problems.
- Preparation of a conceptual plan for the development of the city, mostly based on new roads and ring road proposals
- Organize and conduct a household survey which took place in May 1998. It was a qualitative survey aiming a better knowledge of urban conditions (sanitary, functional) in order to define, to build urban indicators.
- Action Research on urban transportation: public transport survey, Bus stand survey, Routes and density of traffic survey, Improvement of Road junction/Intersection, Identification of alternative locations for new bus stands
- Research on Solid Waste Management: Work with the community and organize a roundtable with the MC for the management of Solid Waste in the City, Construction of Transfer station and installation of dustbins in the city.
- participate in the preparation and organization of an International Conference/Seminar on the theme "Urban and environmental management: local dynamics in intermediary cities in a situation of centralized governments", Mingora, April 27 to May 1, 1999
- Technical supportto organize Community Based Organizations (CBOs) at MOHALLAH level for the improvement of their environment (sanitation, sewerage)
