INFORMATION IN RELATION TO THE COMPLETION OF 2010 BSc NURSING OR MIDWIFERY PROGRAMME

Dear All,

We hope your internship is going well for you as you near the finish line. There are normally a few questions that come up at this time of year in relation to documentation, repeat placements and The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland registration process. Please read this information carefully and please come back to the people mentioned for clarification in relation to any concerns.

Reflective Practice Assignment:

This work is due on the 8th of August. A drop box will be available as usual in the reception of The Health Science Building from the week before submission date. For any communication regarding assignment submission please email your query directly to

Competency Books:

Your competency book is also due for submission in August. Please only submit your assessment book once it is fully completed, all competencies undertaken and you have checked all signatures dates etc. are present and correct. Books are to be submitted to HS3-041 during normal office hours, please note the office is closed from 1pm -2.15pm. These will be checked by the Course Director for your Programme to who you should direct any further queries.

Repeat placement arrangements

In partnership with the health services we are reviewing absence rates in order to make the necessary arrangements for you to clear any time deficits at the end of the internship. Repeat placements are planned to meet the service need but generally occur immediately following placement. You will need to ensure

that you make yourself available during this time. Queries relating to clearing time should be directed to the relevant ALO in the first

instance and then Mairead. We would ask you toplease keep an eye on your UL emails for further information / notifications for the remainder of your internship. Arrangements for completing and recording outstanding time etc. will be sent via email.

The first available graduating exam board which is currently scheduled for Monday the 29/09/2014. If you are concerned about reaching this date or need to discuss your individual arrangements please do not hesitate to contact Mairead Hussey as soon as possible.

Registration process on completion of your programme:

  • In order to be presented to the graduating exam board on Monday the 29/09/2014 you must have achieved all the requirements of your programme, academic, clinical and in the case of the BSc Midwifery students your EU requirements.
  • You are not required to be present at the exam board
  • Following presentation to the graduating exam board you are eligible to apply for registration with The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
  • The Allocations Office here in UL will make the necessary arrangements for you to collect your Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland forms which you will need prior to registration with the Board.
  • We will email/text students with collection arrangements when confirmed.
  • You will NOT have your form on the 30th of September 2014 as we will need to organise to have it signed by the relevant Director of Nursing or Midwiferyprior to you collecting the form.
  • N.B.! You will need to collect your Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland form in person in order to sign it yourself and we will confirm with you the registration process with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
