Ms. Rebecca Tuttle

Greetings, Hickory Career & Arts Magnet (HCAM) students, parents, community, and faculty. I am, Rebecca Tuttle, the new principal of HCAM, and I am excited to welcome all returning and new students to the 2017-2018 school year. It is a fact that HCAM prides itself on high standards and great accomplishments, and I intend to continue this wonderful tradition by utilizing community outreach programs and partnerships in an effort to increase enrollment, enhance overall academic programs, and explore new opportunities. Additionally, it is my goal to provide a quality education to every student and to ensure they have a safe place to learn and succeed in their chosen academies.

Communication is key to success, and as such, my messages to parents and community members will be clear and consistent with HCAM’s vision and mission. In line with this belief and practice, please note the following important dates and announcements as the new school year approaches:

  • Chromebook Boot Camp—August 21, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • This camp provides an opportunity for both parents and new students to learn about the technology that is used within the school, to review the rules in the digital handbook, and for all new students to receive their Chromebooks. (Please note: Returning HCAM students will receive their Chromebooks on the first day of school)
  • Freshmen Orientation—August 25, 9:00 am
  • Freshmen students and parents are invited to participate in an orientation program guaranteed to assist all freshmen as they embark upon their new and exciting high school adventure. Be there!
  • August 28, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • The first day of the new school year is August 28! Please note that school begins at 9:00 am and concludes at 4:00 p.m. The drop off time for ALL students is 8:45 a.m.
  • Open House—September 12, 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • Plan to attend this wonderful event as it provides a great opportunity for parents to meet teachers, learn their child’s schedule, and ask any question they may have. This event is the perfect opportunity for parents and teachers to build a partnership, which in turn, will help students to succeed. Do not miss this ideal event!

Friendly reminders:

  • Parent Portal is a great way to monitor your student's academic progress. Please contact Kim Canino for information on how to access this great tool. (828-328-6738)
  • Hickory Public Schools maintains a communication system whereby parents are able to receive up-to-date information via phone calls and emails. Please be sure the school has all of your correct information on file including current phone numbers, email addresses, and physical addresses.
