INTRODUCTION
Privately owned electric utilities in Washington State file annual reports with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (Commission). As part of its regulatory activities, the Commission reviews these reports and from them compiles and derives relevant financial and operating statistics. This annual publication meets the need for a central source of information relating to investor-owned electric utilities in Washington. These reports may be obtained without having tosecure data from the original reports each time the necessity arises. The reports presented are the annual statistics of Washington's three Major (formerly known as Class "A") electric utilities for the years 1978 through 2015. As of this year the graphs cover the 26-year period 1989-2015.
ELECTRIC UTILITIES OPERATING IN WASHINGTON
The three Major electric utilities that operate in Washington State are: Pacific Power & Light Company, Puget Sound Energy, and Avista Corporation (dba Avista Utilities). Table A on the next page shows the total company revenues for each of the electric utilities and their respective intrastate revenues. Only Puget Sound Energy (PSE) generates its electric revenue entirely within Washington State, Pacific Power & Light (PPL) operates primarily outside the state and Avista Utilities (AU) primarily in Washington with service in Idaho and Oregon. Table B gives a list of the previous operating names for each of the major utilities.

For each of the major utilities, information is divided into before-2004 and 2004-to-present. Information presented for Washington State operations only is not time segregated. Information is further grouped into 12distinct sections:

Annual data for sections 1 through 5 are provided for total company operations only. Data for sections6 through 12 are provided both by total company and Washington State operations. Time series financial and operational data is presented in tabular form in this report both in aggregate and individually for each of the three electric utilities. Since Puget Sound Energy operates only within the state, the "Company Total" and "State Operations Only Total" are identical. Additionally, the reports include information on generation capacity for following categories: fossil fuel (including coal and natural gas), hydraulic, other non-fossil generation (includes bio-fuels, geo-thermal, solar, and wind), and nuclear.
NOTE FOR DATA ANALYSIS
As in any attempt to develop continuous and comparable time series data, the primarydifficultyof comparing or updating these reports is the assurance of comparability between elements. Though comparability is assured at broad group levels, the individual elements that are added are due to changes in accounting systems and pose a continuous problem for comparison over time. These problems are compounded by a lack of a comprehensive database that is capable of highlighting these differences or providing consistent information. Considerable efforts are undertaken to accommodate these changes and revisions and improvements are incorporated as and when they become appropriate.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
In an effort to ensure accuracy of information and remove possible error due to data entry, post-2004 information was copied directly from the FERC Form 1 online database[1]. Additionally, column “C” in any “2004-Present” tab will list the FERC page number and line number that the information was derived from. The format for this information is “page#-line#.” A “c” represents a calculated value.

This is the primary factor driving the time segregation in the reports.
