TITLE: EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR #3143 - [Operations Officer]

LOCATION: Emergency Management

SALARY: $ 47,512 /Year

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under immediate supervision, performs responsible work in hazardous materials planning, on-site response liaison and operations, information storage systems, coordination of training in the National Incident Management System (NIMS) with emergency responders; does related work, as required.

This position responds to and provides support for the City/County hazardous materials team; acts as site liaison with federal, state, and local private industry; assists with specialized control, containment and/or confinement operations within the capabilities of the resources available; initiates and monitors major hazardous material release clean-up activities; coordinates liaison activities with on-site responding agencies; coordinates local damage assessment team activities; understands in-depth hazard and risk management techniques; assists in the identification and verification of known and unknown materials; coordinates NIMS and other specialized training for emergency responders; monitors Superfund Amendment and Reauthorization Act(SARA) and NC Right-To-Know industry compliance; responds to emergencies, on a 24 hour basis, within Winston-Salem/Forsyth County.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with expertise in chemistry, toxicology, and/or public or business administration, hazardous materials identification, biology and environmental health and a thorough knowledge of local and state emergency response plans or experience in directing emergency management programs or operations in an emergency setting. Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver’s License is required. Must possess effective writing and communication skills.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATION: Ability to obtain a North Carolina Associate Emergency Manager Certification within first three years of employment.
