§  The following is a list of video resources available through the diocesan audio visual library (unless otherwise noted.) To reserve, or for more information regarding these videos, please call 337-261-5674.

§  These tapes may be used for Continuing Education and Parent/Other Adult Education Programs.

§  Guest speakers may be used instead of, or in addition to, video tapes. (See list of recommended speakers.)

§  Individuals who attend any education session must sign a roster for that specific session. The original roster must be sent to the Office of Human Resources. A copy of each roster must be kept on file at the individual location.

§  All continuing education sessions must include a review of the diocesan “Code of Professional Conduct”, as well as Child Abuse Reporting Procedures.

§  Parents/Other Adults are also invited to attend a child/youth program with their own child(ren) in lieu of a separate program for parents/other adults.

A VIEW FROM THE SHADOWS: Exposing the Mind of Child Offenders

(Vol. I). (You Have the Power) This documentary discusses child sexual abuse through interviews with incarcerated sex offenders, national experts on the subject of child sexual abuse and adult survivors. ■ It sparks discussion and raises questions regarding what the community can do to reduce victimization. 18:14 minutes.

A VIEW FROM THE SHADOWS: Treating Child Sex Offenders

(Vol. II). (You Have the Power) This documentary offers a glimpse of the dynamics associated with child sexual abuse. Through interviews with incarcerated sex offenders who have participated in a sex offender program in prison, interviews with national experts on the subject, and through interviews with a family trying to reunify after sexual abuse has occurred in the family, questions are raised about what to do about sex offenders. 21:45 minutes

A VIEW FROM THE SHADOWS: Talking About Child Sex Abuse

(Vol. III). (You Have the Power) This documentary discusses child sexual abuse through interviews with victims and their families. It stresses the fact that those people who sexually abuse children are very good at manipulating the children (and their families) and offers suggestions to parents for recognizing signs and communicating more with each other and with your children. 28:20 minutes

CAUGHT IN THE WEB. (Connect with Kids) Cell phones, chatrooms, text messages and blog websites are the new communication tools for teens. But unlike face-to-face conversations, teenagers’ electronic conversations are less regulated, which can have dire consequences. Caught in the Web examines how the Internet has become a present-day Wild West, along with ways to bring law back to the land. Resource guide included.

CHILD ABUSE: HOW TO SEE IT, HOW TO STOP IT. This video includes ■ Definitions of physical, sexual and emotional abuse ■ Stories of adult survivors ■ Discussion of theological issues (forgiveness, confidentiality) including how to respond to a victim’s disclosure of abuse. IT SHOULDN’T HURT TO BE A CHILD. (Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana) This Mandatory Reporting Workshop teaches you how to recognize indicators of child maltreatment. It also covers the reporting process. Cost: $10.00

LifeSkills Training is an interactive, skills-based program designed to help parents promote positive health and personal development in their children. Based on the curriculum, the following sessions would also meet the safe environment education requirements for continuing education as well as for parent/other adult education.

SUFFERING IN SILENCE. (Jist Life Publishing Company) Through dramatizations of different forms of sexual trauma, this video dispels myths that often keep victims from reporting this devastating crime. It emphasizes that sexual assault can occur at anytime, to anyone, anywhere, and it reviews the four most common situations, including child sexual abuse, acquaintance rape, domestic rape, and unknown assailant rape. 22 min.
