From 10.00am / Experience Sheffield Exhibition – Students’ Union (map ref E4 120)
The open day begins with our Experience Sheffield Exhibition. This is an exhibition of lots of the University services available to all students. It includes tours of our libraries, sports facilities and student accommodation. You can also find aboutstudy skills and employability. What you see and do is up to you.
After you’ve visited the exhibition please make your way to the
ICOSS Building where our student ambassadors will register you for the ‘Discover SMI’ open day.
1.00pm / Open day registration – Sheffield Methods Institute, Second Floor, ICOSS (map ref G3 197)
Lunch & interactive session: Measuring morality
Lunch will be provided in our brand new student area, and you’ll be asked to take part in a fun interactive example of quantitative research.
1.30pm / Welcome to the Sheffield Methods Institute (SMI)
Dr Todd Hartman, Director of Learning and Teaching will introduce the SMI and our mission and visions. Todd will outline the topics that will be covered throughout the day.
2.00pm / Discover the SMI
Professor Charles Pattie, will talk through the course content and the student experience at the SMI. You will have the opportunity to ask Charles questions.
2.30pm / Mixed methods taster lecture : Search data across space & time
This is your chance to experience a mini lecture and get a real taste of the teaching that we offer.
3.00pm / Refreshment break
3.15pm / The skills a graduate needs: An employer’s perspective
We’ve invited an employer to tell us about the skills he looks for in graduates and the career options available with a degree from the SMI.
3.30pm / Ask an expert….
Students and guests will be split into groups to ask questions to either the student ambassadors or academic staff.

Our student ambassadors answer your informal questions about student life at Sheffield. / Ask an academic
Our brilliant academic staff will be on hand to answer any burning questions you may have.
3.50pm / Thanks for coming
Wrap-up the day and next steps. Plus, a thank you treat from us.
