About eLodgement

The County Court of Victoria eLodgement system is an online portal allowing legal practitioners to electronically lodge a number of forms and documents for criminal matters online from 13 April 2015.

Under eLodgement, manual handling and delivery of many documents will no longer be accepted. Instead, legal practitioners will lodge documents directly from their offices through the online eLodgement portal.

A tracking number will advise legal practitioners that their documents have been received by the Court. Certain document types will be automatically processed by the Court and legal practitioners. Other document types will require validation by the Court prior to acceptance. For those document types, if they are rejected by the Court, a rejection email should occur within 48 hours.

In Melbourne

Documents may only be lodged against cases initiated in the Court from 1 January 2015. These are represented by CR-15+ case numbers.

In the Regions

Documents can be lodged against all pending cases on the County Court Circuit List, regardless of the CR case number, as electronic document management has been available in all regional County Courts since August 2013.

Documents Types

Document types that cannot currently be lodged under any case in eLodgement include:

· Depositions

· Files over 10MB in size

· Files not in the format .doc, .docx, .pdf, .xls, .xlsx

The eLodgement system has been designed to be intuitive, meaning that it can be easily navigated and understood without the need for instructions. However, the Court has developed this short user guide to assist legal practitioners to become familiar with eLodgement as soon as possible.

Legal Practitioners

The Court eLodgement system uses information provided by the Legal Services Board to create and verify legal practioner accounts. This includes utilising Legal Services Board practicing certifcate numbers and the email addresses assigned to those numbers.

Information on how to apply for a practicing certificate is available on the Legal Services Board website at www.lsb.vic.gov.au

Additionally, if a legal practitioner obtained their practicing certifcate some time ago, they may need to update their email address details with the Legal Services Board to ensure that eLogement confirmation emails are sent to the correct email address.

Legal pracitioners employed by the Victorian Office of Public Prosecutions and the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions are subject to a separate account verification process. Legal practitioners for those agencies should refer to their own organisation for their Login account details.
