Course Description:

Thiscourse meetson alternating days for 5th-7th graders and everyday for 8th and 9th graders, for 50 minutes/class, forthe full year. Students will be assessed on their participation/effort level, physical fitness, motor skills, personal/social behavior, and their understanding of selected units. This will be accomplished through instruction in the following activities: racquet sports, basketball,flying discs, soccer, floor hockey, volleyball, fitness games,strength training, dance and outdoor activities. Units may be added or omitted due to weather and availability of space and equipment. Safety concepts, activity/sport rules, etiquette, and most importantly LEADERSHIP SKILLS are emphasized in all activities.

Dress:

  • Everyone is required to wear their P.E. uniform: Grey Shirt, Black Shorts, and Tennis Shoes that tie (Any comfortable colored shoes are acceptable for PE CLASS ONLY).
  • NOT ACCEPTABLE-FLIP FLOPS, NON-TYING SHOES, UGG BOOTS, LOW TOP CONVERSE.
  • SOLID COLORED BLACK OR WHITE SOCKS ONLY, NO NIKE ELITES.
  • Any color sweatshirt/sweatpants for outside activities is allowed. *Be aware that due to class size we will be outside as much as possible so dress accordingly.
  • NO jewelry, watches, etc.
  • Girls- LPS will not provide things such as hair ties or lotion nor will you be allowed to ask the Nurse for a hair tie/rubber band. Please come prepared knowing you have P.E.

Safety: Student safety is of utmost importance in our Physical Education classes!

  • Students are expected to dress in proper P.E. uniform and report to roll call lines 5 minutes after they are released from their previous class in multipurpose room. There will be a ZERO TOLERANCE policy regarding “Horseplay” in the dressing room before class, while they are dressing out.
  • Report any injuries to the PE teacher immediately.
  • No loose or sharp jewelry this includes earrings(only studs can be worn).
  • No gum chewing in class –this is a choking hazard.
  • Have sneakers that tie and stay on your feet.

Grading:

Students will earn full credit by being dressed properly, participating with high effort, and exhibiting responsible personal and social behavior. Students will be docked 10 points for being tardy. If the student is not in their roll call lines fully dressed ( i.e. putting on lotion, grabbing a hair tie out of their bag.) and waiting for instruction they are considered tardy.If students receive an unexcused absence they have the opportunity tomeet with me and set up a time before school or after school to make up their participation points for the days that they missed. It is the student’s responsibility to set up these make up times.
