Monday:

I brought Fremont their power washer back and briefly checked out their facility. I didn’t tour it or anything, but I got a good look at how their facility is set up. When I got back, Joe and I began preparing the grain dryer to test it and see how fast it filled. While that was running, I began working at pits 3 and 4. I loaded trucks from the overhead on three and unloaded inbound trucks into the overhead when needed or put the corn into bin 304 when the overhead was full.

Tuesday:

Today Damon, Joe, and I started to clean the grain dryer. The first thing we had to do was get all of our permits in order. We needed a Confined Space Reclassification permit and we had to do a LOTO for the dryer as well. Joe and I started with locking out the dryer. We made sure the propane gas was working correctly and then we locked out the dryer so that we could enter it. After we got in the dryer, Damon came over to help while Joe went over to help at the ground pile. Pretty soon things started to pick up and I was needed to run pit 3 which I did for the rest of the day while also helping out at pit 4 whenever I could. Periodically throughout the day, I also took grain bin measurements.

Wednesday:

Today I was in charge of pit 3 and it was a pretty busy day. I loaded a lot more outbound corn trucks from the overhead than I’ve done before, which was interesting. It was a little difficult at first to guess how much was enough for each truck, but I got better at it after a while. Plus the drivers helped watch their gauges to let me know when we were close to being full, so that helped a lot. I still got a good number of inbound corn trucks which I used to fill the overhead if I needed to and if the overhead was full, I sent the inbound corn to bin 306. When the overhead was full, I began transferring bin 306 into 301. All the inbound trucks then went into bin 304 if there was no room in the overhead.

Thursday:

I ran pit 3 today, transferring the ground pile corn from 306 into 301. I was pretty busy there today, so we didn’t get to finish cleaning out the grain dryer from Tuesday. We did however fill it up again to see how fast we could get it full and Damon and I went up to the top to see how the drag was working up there. Joe stayed on the ground and watched it down there to make sure everything was working okay.

Friday:

Today I was at pit 3 transferring corn into 301 from 306 for an hour or so. I didn’t have many inbound trucks this morning, so I had time to transfer a decent amount. Pit 4’s distributor was having a little trouble, so I took one load from the ground pile and put that directly into 301. Every other inbound truck I sent to 304 or the overhead if it needed it. I had the lunch bag call today, so I watched that during lunch and then went back out to pit 3. When the day was over, Damon and I started to patch up some holes in the concrete at pit 3 so that it wouldn’t be as rough for the drivers and it would be much easier to sweep up. I had everything swept up nice and clean, but it does get messy throughout the day especially from loading trucks and from all the dust from incoming trucks.
