We Are Off to a Great Start! the Students Have Been Doing a Super Job Listening and Following

Dear Parents,

We are off to a great start!  The students have been doing a super job listening and following the rules. It looks to be a wonderful year!! We will spend the week getting to know each other and orienting ourselves to the classroom.

Our first theme for this year is All About Me. The students will be spending August and September learning all about themselves. We will discuss how we are each special and unique. We will also learn about the five senses, healthy habits and feelings. This week’s literature selection is a big book called, The Little Engine That Could. We will be discussing that when faced with something we perceive we can’t do, we must tell ourselves that we think we can do it and give it a try.

All About Me Homework ~ Please have your child put 4 favorite items in the white paper bag to share. Return tomorrow.

This week, we will discuss the color red and learn the color word for red. We will also learn the numbers 1 and 2 and the number words for each. We will practice making sets of one and two. This is in our first chapter of the math series. The math homework book was sent home at orientation. Please complete chapter one lessons 1, 2 and 3 this week at home. Do not send the individual lessons in. I will collect the homework at the completion of the chapter.

Fundations lessons this week introduce letters Tt, Bb and Ff. We will identify, write and practice the letter sound for each.

Every morning we count the number of days that we have been in school. This will help us with our counting to 100.

Reminders:

~ The cafeteria would like lunches to be prepaid. Prepay day is Monday if you are sending it into school. Please send in lunch money on this day. You can also prepay online. You can prepay as many lunches as you would like. The lunches do not have to be purchased on consecutive days. The money is simply held in your child’s cafeteria account. The students do not have to know their id numbers. They simply give the cafeteria person their first and last name. Money or checks must be in an envelope or the little blue plastic lunch pouch with the child’s name and marked as lunch money, if you choose to send lunch money into school. Students have been taught to put all money, notes, etc. from home into the classroom ‘froggy box’. Also, please make sure your child knows when he/she is a buyer. I do not have access to your accounts and have no idea if there is money available. The students will put their lunch picture cards under buyer or packer each morning. Thank you. If you have any questions about this, please contact me.

~Afternoon snacks should be kept in the backpacks not lunch boxes. Some students are confusing the snack with the lunch. It should be separate. Snacks should be a healthy food item that can be eaten with fingers-no spoons/forks. There is no drink at snack time other than water. We will get drinks from the water fountain. Juice and milk are not permitted for snack time. Thank you.

~Please make sure your child is wearing his/her bus tag to school each day. This is mandatory for the first weeks of school.

~Also, the library is in need of one or two parent volunteers from each class to assist with library each week. Our library time is Thursday from 10:00-10:45. If you can help, please contact the library assistant, Mrs. Bell (). A library note was sent on your child’s orientation day with this information.

Open House is scheduled for Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 6:30-7:30.

Have a super week. Please call or write with any questions, comments or concerns.

Mrs. J.
