The topics discussed at this meeting were:
- Creating Title I Parent Engagement Plan for 2015-1016
The Title I Parent Engagement Plan was reviewed and Bradley instructed everyone that this meeting we would create a draft for the 2015-2016 school year. This was started by changing the dates to 2015-2016.The team then updated, edited, and added to the current plan to create a draft of the new plan for next school year. Bradley will compile the edits and email copies to the team. This will be the first draft of the 2015-2016 plan. All parents are encouraged to give their input into the creating of our final plan. After the new school year starts, parents will be given more opportunities for input. The next Parent Vision Team meeting will tentatively be set for the first or second week of the new school year.
- Discussion about 2015-2016 Open House
All parents present said that Open House was not a good experience for them and some suggestions for improvement were:
- Have curriculum night the same night as Open House
- Have 2 Open Houses (one for K-2 and one for 3-5)
- Better directions and flow with parent ushers who know the school ( parents present volunteered to help with this)
- Visit the teacher’s classrooms first, and then proceed to other stations
- Large signs directing people to the correct rooms
Bradley reminded everyone of the Kindergarten Sneak-A-Peek for upcoming Kindergarteners. Everyone agreed that this was a great opportunity to introduce parents and new students to the school. The Sneak-A –Peek is July 25, 2015 from 10:00am – 12:00 Noon.
- Questions, Suggestions, Concerns, and Comments
- Bradley asked if they wanted to continue with the name for the Title I Parent Task Force being The Parent Vision Team or change it. All agreed they still liked the name “The Parent Vision Team”.
- It was stated that the “Charter Chats” was a very positive thing for parents
- The suggestion was made that there was a need for classes on “The Love and Logic” disciple program or “The Scream Free” program.
- Suggestion was made to send more mass emails to communicate with parents. It was noted that parents email addresses needed to be updated more often.
- It was recommended that activities be planned for just dads and students; such as: Dad’s camp night (reading in tents), Dads with Snacks ( like Tea with Mom),
- Parents were very concerned about school grounds not being safe because of all the overgrown weeds and bushes. They suggested a Parent Beautification Day/Courtyard Cleanup, (like Family Gardening Day that had been done in the past.) Need to put more “shine” into our school yard.
- Meeting was adjourned at 7:05 PM
Governance Council meetings are open to all parents.
