  • All attendees were welcomed to the General Partnership Meeting.
  • Safety & Health Awareness and Family Reunification Awareness.
  1. HOUSE KEEPING (Elaine Martinez Curry)

Announcement: The Contact Meeting Distribution listsare located on the front sign-in table. Attendees not on the list will be added by filling out the sign-in sheet with their contact information. New members and attendees were welcomed. New attendees were asked to fill out their contact information on the sign-in sheet and to complete a temporary name placard. A permanent placard will be made for future meetings. Attendees will find Partnership membership information on the sign-in table. The Partnership newsletter goes out each month, attendees were asked to send their submissions by June 3rd. The Partnership is having ano cost, half day Mandated Reporter Workshop: Preventing Abuse and Protecting Our Families, on June 17th from 8:30am-12:30pm, at Ventura County Human Services Agency, Children and Family Services, 855 Partridge Rd., Peppertree Room, Ventura. The training is for professionals who are mandated reporters needing training or a refresher on how to recognize, report, respond toand report child, dependent adult, elder abuse and gain knowledge of violence prevention resources in our community. Flyers were distributed and registration is due by June 15th.

What is Triple P

  • Triple P- Positive Parenting Program
  • A multi-level system of family intervention and parenting support strategy.
  • Designed to reduce behavioral/emotional problems in children by enhancing the parents parenting skills
  • Promotes positive parenting skills.
  • Promotes positive parent-child interactions and relationships.

Five Core Positive Parenting Principles

Ensuring a safe interesting environment.

Creating a positive learning environment using assertive discipline.

Having realistic expectations.

Taking care of oneself as a parent.

Specific Parenting Strategies

Parents learn to apply:

Skills to strengthen parent-child relationships.

Skills to encourage desirable behavior.

Skills for teaching children new behavior and skills.

Skills for managing misbehavior

Children’s Competence include:

Social and language skills.

Emotional self-regulation skills.

Independence skills.

Problem solving skills.

Levels of Intervention in the Triple P system

Level 1: “Universal” is a media- based parenting information campaign to promote awareness of parenting issues and normalize participation in programs such as Triple P.

Level 2: “Selected” Provides information to parents through brief face-to-face contact or seminars.

Level 3: “Primary Care” interventions incorporate brief intervention approach to managing identified problems.

Level 4: “Standard” individual or group format focuses on more intensive training in positive parenting skills for a broader range of behavioral problems.

Level 5: “Enhanced” offers 3 modules that provide extra support for parents dealing with personal or relationship stress during or after level 4.

Triple P intervention

  • VenturaCounty Community Commission (CCVC) Project(Christa Clippinger)

The CCVC report is in its final stages and will be presented in front of the CCVC on Monday at the Public Health, 2215 Gonzalez Road, Oxnard. It will be open to the public.

  • DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PREVENTION COMMITTEE (Noel Lopez)

October is DV Awareness Month, and to honor victims of DV, the Naval Base Ventura County will be making silhouettes that will have a story to them. The DV committee is planning different events with the silhouettes. Jeoffrey Pontice attended a recent committee meeting. He suggested an idea of putting together a video on domestic violence, with abusers as the target audience. The video would depict the consequences of the abusers’ actions, including the consequences for immigrants. The video would be in indigenous languages. A formal proposal is being submitted.

  • SEXUAL ABUSE PREVENTION COMMITTEE

The committee continues to do panel presentations. Anyone who is interested can contact Caroline Prijatel or Susan Becker.

  • YOUTH ENGAGMENT & DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE(Marilee Rust)

The new co-chair for the YE&DC is Vanessa Cortez. The committee meetings are held every last Thursday of the month.

This committee is currently looking for new members.
