Objective:

-  Create an original fountain with self-expression, meaning, and symbolism

-  Utilize the elements of art and the principles of design to conceptualize, design, and create a composition in three dimensional form, paying attention to subject matter and composition Maintain a visual journal with images and notes pertaining to tabletop water fountains

-  Use electronic technology for reference and for creating original work

-  recall/define techniques, processes, and tools of ceramic construction techniques

-  analyze dominant elements and principles and important composition and design elements essential to creating a uniquely designed tabletop water fountain

-  Utilize a unified surface treatment

-  Formulate a personal connection to their work, expressing the meaning through a formal presentation and a written essay.

Procedure/Activities:

1.  Sketching and research of ideas

2.  Individual Discussion of project and construction techniques

3.  Prep clay via extruder or slab roller based on design

4.  Begin forming shape based on discussed technique

5.  Using the finishing tools, clean up the final product paying close attention to details

6.  Finalize designs and last minute details

7.  Critique – Written and oral critique at the closure of the lesson

Assessment/Rubric: Based on observation of daily participation and overall art production; although students will be working at different speeds, there will be a series individual and small group critiques daily, as well as, self-evaluations. Written, small group or class critiques will begin at the conclusion of the assignment.
