GENERAL NOTES: USE ONLY WITH TEACHER’S PERMISSION. This safe work procedure includes a practical demonstration by the teacher. The Band Saw Is designed for cutting curved outlines but it can also be used for straight cuts that don’t require great accuracy.

Step / Description / Hazard / Controls
1 / Adjust the guard / Wood may be “shot out” / The guard should be one pencil thickness above the wood
2 / Keep your hands 5 cm away from the blade / You may cut yourself / Use a push-stick when its closer than 5cm
3 / Let the blade reach full speed before cutting.
4 / Cut wood / You may cut yourself / Never place hands in line with the blade
5 / Turn saw off / Wait by the machine until the bade stops
6 / If the blade breaks… / Serious injury / Turn the saw off, leave door closed…call the instructor
