Stage Management.

In this unit the learners will have an opportunity to take on a technical role in a short performance which is staged for an audience. The teacher will take on the role of stage manager and allow the learners to take on one technical role of either, lighting, sound, costumes, props or set. Learners will have an opportunity to research the stage management career roles in the industry and should make a backstage visit to a professional theatre. This unit could be linked with unit 2 or to a school production. Learners will also be engaged with health and safety and environmental issues connected with the stage and technical aspects of stage management

Materials and related skills knowledge / Have a basic knowledge of the design and operational roles required when putting on a theatre performance.
These will include set, costume, props, lighting and sound. / Have a basic knowledge and understanding of the skills required for

·  Sound eg. cues, volume, radio mics, amplifiers, etc.
·  Costume eg. collate, materials, shape, colour etc.

Design for a short performance
(3 – 5 mins) / Design a basic lighting or sound plot; (3 cues eg blackout/lights/blackout or start /stop at specific level) or assemble a minimum of 3 costumes or props or organise a basic set eg table/chair/doorway / Design a lighting or sound plot or assemble appropriate costumes or props for a performance / Design a clear and detailed lighting or sound plot or assemble appropriate full costumes or specific props for a performance
