Lockdown Drill: Today we had a lockdown drill at St. Peters. Staff and students heard of an armed intruder in the building and then hid in their respective areas out of sight behind locked doors. We are regularly evaluating our procedures and looking to implement what we feel is the best plan possible.

Midterm: It is already halfway through the third quarter. Today is officially the midterm mark. If you have any concerns regarding your child, please do not hesitate to contact his/her teacher. Before we know it, the end of the year will be upon us.

Grades 5-6: In Science class students had to build a tower as high and as strong as possible using only 20 pieces of spaghetti and 30 pieces of marshmallows. The structures were tested by adding mass at their highest points. It tower had to hold the mass for at least 10 seconds to qualify. Scores were determined by taking the total mass held divided by the mass of the tower itself plus tower height. In Round One Calvin Loughrin and Justin Lenz were the top point earners with a score of 51.97. Reed Curtis and Sawyer Rolfs had the top points for Round Two with a score of 82.75. Reed and Sawyer were also the winners overall with an average of 55.93186 for their two attempts at engineering and construction.

Preschool News

We finished talking about the miracles that Jesus did. We watched the video, The Story of Jesus and His Miracles, from the Beginners Bible series. The children really enjoyed actually “seeing” the miracles.

4/K News

We moved onto letters Tt and Uu. After this first look at the alphabet we’ll start The Animal Pals Series.

The homework sheets are coming back and the few that have, look beautiful. Remember; don’t make a chore about doing these “homework” sheets. The sheets don’t need to be colored unless the directions say to color.

3/K News

We are cutting a lot with our scissors now. Cutting is a fine motor skill that takes a lot of practice to master. A good way to let your child practice is to cut the coupons from the flyers in the Sunday paper. Remind them to stay on the “broken” line and let them cut. We discussed at GREAT length about only cutting paper and that if you did not go to school to be a barber or a hair dresser you CAN NOT cut hair.

We are still working on our unit on shapes.
