Each participating family will get to choose 2 topics from a list of 50 to talk about and practicein this customized, supportive class. Topics include time and money management, gift giving and receiving, respecting siblings, how to enter group conversations, thinking before we speak, first aid, and assertiveness among many others. Kids will have the opportunity to learn to play their favorite songs and music on electric keyboards. Radio hits, movie and television themes are made so easy, that participants will be playing them after the very first class! The club is a combination of keyboard piano lessons and a music learning workshop, which uses a clever visual method to teach the basics of music reading and piano playing. We've developed lots of learning games and activities designed to teach kids basic music reading skills and playing techniques, in ways that are fun and engaging. We want our students to stay motivated and continue to want to learn to play music, whether they like Macklemore or Beethoven. We have a few openings for students in grades 4-6 that are interested in joining the Robot Builders. No experience required. Competitions are optional. Creative thinking and a willingness to problem solve are REQUIRED!! :) Both Robotics groups will run the same VEX IQ system. Students that have not built the Clawbot will built this robot first then create their own bot to meet the Bank Shot Competition Requirements. Classes max out at 10, so don't hesitate and join the fun. Classes run from 8:10 - 9:20

A digital photography class where students learn how to document their lives and surroundings in a thoughtful manner. Students will be given assignments to complete throughout the week. For example, photographing elements of design - line, texture, shape, pattern, and discovering how lighting affects the result. Students will learn how to edit photographs, create visual stories and thoughtfully organize their images.The end of the last day of class will be an artist reception where each student creatively displays their work for everyone to view. Students are encouraged to bring a digital camera from home for this class. Donations of digital cameras and picture frames gladly accepted.

Each week, we’ll discuss fascinating facts about the animals we build from the chameleon that changes colors to the seal model that waddles across the floor. Students will love these moving models that celebrate the wonders of the animal kingdom. Bricks 4Kidz® hands-on programs aredesigned and created by teachers, architects and engineering professionals to introduce young people to concepts of engineering, architecture and mechanics.

What is Futsal? Futsal is the only form of indoor soccer recognized by FIFA. It's a fast paced game, played 5-on-5 on a wall-less hard-court surface, with a slightly smaller ball with less bounce. Futsal emphasizes quick thinking, technique, and foot-skill development. The smaller playing area causesall players to be involved on both defense and offense, and scoring opportunities are frequent. Seattle Futsal has been organizing the sport in the Seattle area since 2009.

Over the last 10 years the Clay Animation Network has taught over 10,000 students how to make animated movies by providing them with a class theme (i.e. Superheroes, Aliens, etc.). Now students get to watch CANtv (a collection of student movies) on the CAN website to get ideas and decide on their own theme. Students will use iPads (provided by C.A.N.) to take animation photos of LEGO® pieces and edit video and sound. Set, character, and story construction will be taught. This class will introduce participants to the basic techniques of Kajukenbo, a mixed martial art with the elements of Kung Fu, Karate, Judo, JuJitsu, boxing, and Filipino martial arts. We will focus on the “big 21 basics” of hands, kicks, and stances. Our Instructor, Ms. Restita DeJesus has specialized in teaching martial arts to children and teens since 1982. She holds black belt instructor ranks in Karate, Kajukenbo/Wun Hop Kuen Do, Filipino Martial Arts, Chinese Wushu, and Tai Chi.
Amelia's Aero Club / Girls only Grade6 / Science Lab #145

Amelia’s Aero Club (AAC) will provide 6th grade girls hands-on activities to explore topics related to science, technology, rocketry, engineering and the fundamentals of flight. From model airplanes to model rockets, ACC participants will get to design and prototype their own engineering projects. AAC programming at Boren K-8 STEM will be supported by the Museum of Flight’s educational staff and will include special guest presenters from a variety of science, technology, engineering, art, aviation and mathematics (STEAAM) fields.

Registration begins Wednesday, December 9 and will be open until Friday, January 8. Please register online using the Enrichment link from the PTA website stemk8pta.org. If needed, please download a paper form and turn it into the PTA Enrichment Program mailbox in the front office with your payment during office hours. Printed paper registration forms will also be available in the office. Participants are selected on a first come, first serve basis. All programs have minimum and maximum enrollment numbers, so please consider registering in a timely manner to ensure the programs can run and that your child has a spot in the desired classes.

Volunteers: One volunteer is needed for each class. Volunteers will help with signing students in and out of class, as well as, assist instructors. Volunteers will receive 50% off tuition for the class and priority enrollment. For more information please contact Linnea Seidelmann at

Partial Scholarships are available to families who request them, no questions asked, for one class per child forwinter session. Please note that scholarships are funded through the proceeds of the PTA Enrichment Program itself, i.e. from all of our families. The goal is to be all-inclusive but also self-sustaining. Please carefully consider the needs of your family when deciding whether to request a scholarship. Scholarship requests will be kept confidential. Rules of Participation

All students must be walked into morning programs and be signed in, unless they walk independently to school. If for some reason there is no class, students that walk independently must walk back home.

If your child will miss class, please let the enrichment coordinator know in advance by email, phone or text.

For all afternoon classes, children will gather in the courtyard near the gym where attendance will be taken. If a child who is not absent from school or released prior to the end of school is not at the meeting point, the STEM office, their parent(s) and emergency contact will be notified by phone.

Students must be picked up promptly when class ends. If there is a problem with pickup, please be in contact with the parent volunteer by phone or arrange to have another parent pick up your child. Parents that are chronically late may be unable to continue participating in the current session and may be unable to register for classes in the future.

Students are expected to be respectful and act appropriately during Enrichment Programs. Failure to do so may result in inability for student to continue in the Enrichment Program. Instructors will determine if a student should continue if behavior is disruptive or inhibits others’ experience.

A class may be completely cancelled if the minimum number of students is not reached.

Classes/Clubs are chosen for the needs of community. New classes and clubs are always sought and can apply to the Enrichment Program for review.

Cancellation Policy: If you cancel registration 48 hours before the session begins, you may receive a full refund. If you cancel within the 48 hours, or during the session, we won’t guarantee a refund.
