SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Purpose

To provide incentive and expense support for current members of Ohio Joint Council of Extension Professionals in pursuing professional development activities that will increase their expertise and effectiveness.

Professional Development Activity

Plan a course of study or attend an event that will permit the applicant to do one or more of the following;

1. to participate in educational events and conferences that will contribute to the applicants professional development (applications to attend traditional Extension Conferences given low priority);

2. to pursue advanced degrees or graduate credits in subject matter relevant to applicants area of expertise; and

3. to spend one or more weeks studying specialization area or administration with host personnel outside the state of Ohio.

Selection

Ohio JCEP Scholarship Awards will be selected by a Committee of Ohio JCEP members based on the following criteria:

1. merit of proposal as demonstrated by purpose and need;

2. relevance of proposal to OSU Extension’s goals and objectives;

3. plan to disseminate information learned to benefit OSU Extension and peers;

4. proposed budget showing total costs and other sources of funding;

5. support of immediate supervisor;

6. preference is given to applications submitted prior to events or conferences.

Funding

Maximum funding awarded per individual is $750.00. Scholarship stipends totaling up to $3,000 will be awarded in February, May, and September for a total of $9,000 annually. Only one award per individual per year is permitted. Preference will be giving to applicants who have not received funding in the previous two years. Funds must be spent within 12 months of receiving award. Scholarships are not transferable and must be used for the event/activity submitted.

Procedures

  • Applicants should submit their application by email or fax to Ohio JCEP Scholarships, Grants and Recognition Committee Scholarship Sub-Committee Chair by February 15 for the winter awards, May 1 for the spring awards and by September 1 for the fall awards.
  • Applications must be approved by an immediate supervisor. This may be submitted as a scanned form which is emailed, having an attachment with approval from a supervisor, or faxing a signed document.
  • Stipends will be payable upon receipt of an expense report and a written summary (1-2 pages). The summary must be submitted to the Ohio JCEP Treasurer and Scholarship, Grants and Recognition Committee Chair within 60 days after training or event.
