The Minister for Regional Development, Minister Brendon Grylls, recently announced:

Centre for parents and children in Perenjori

  • Royalties for Regions funds new parenting and early childhood centre
  • New facility will offer affordable childcare, community training and playgroup
  • $1.1m provided by Liberal National Government’s Royalties for Regions program

Perenjori residents are set to benefit from a new multi-purpose parenting and early childhood centre to provide affordable childcare and advice to parents.

The $1.1million funding for the facility will be provided through the Liberal National Government’s Royalties for Regions program.

Mount Gibson Mining, Karara Mining Ltd, Lotterywest and the Shire of Perenjori are also contributing to the centre, which is expected to cost $2million.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said Perenjori was the Mid-West region’s fastest growing community. From 2010 to 2011 it grew by more than four per cent and by more than 50 per cent in the 10 years before that.

“This growth places considerable pressure on community services such as housing, education, health and, of course, childcare,” Mr Grylls said.

“This new facility will provide parent support services in partnership with Perenjori Primary School, WA Country Health Service, community agencies and the local community.”

The centre will contain a dedicated 19-place childcare facility, health and education rooms and flexible community spaces to accommodate a variety of programs and groups.

It will also offer community training programs, a playgroup, toy library and Aboriginal early childhood development services.

The centre will be built next to the Perenjori Primary School.

The facility will provide a range of early childhood, parent and family support services in partnership with Perenjori Primary School, WA Country Health Service, community agencies and the local community. The facility will also house a licensed child care service with the capacity for 19 places within the next 10 years.

The objective of the project is to establish and develop a facility and community resource, focused on early learning and family support services that will be available for the local and surrounding communities.
