MOUNT WASHINGTON

HILL CLIMB

September 13th and 14th, 2008

The VSCCA’s fifth annual Mount Washington Hill Climb is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, September 13 and 14. We are joint venturing the event with the New Hampshire Region of the BMW Owners Club. The event will be limited to 40 entries (20 from each club). This is a historic event dating back to 1904 and well worth the extra effort to drive to northern NH.

Hill Climb

The auto road is approximately 8 miles long. Due to the requirements of flagging, safety and time we will race only to the 4.8 mile half way point (paved). On the last run of each day entrants may continue to the top, untimed and at a significantly reduced speed as there will be no corner workers on the top half and there my be downward traffic. There is a restaurant at the top and views of the whole world.

For financial reasons the mountain needs to be open to the public most of the day. Our runs, therefore, will start promptly at 8:00 AM and must be complete by 11:30 AM on both days. There will be no exceptions for weather, breakdowns or the like. In order to accommodate the limited time we are accepting only 40 entrants and hope to get two runs in each day. On Friday and Saturday, and Sunday afternoon all entrants may use the road at no cost.

The VSCCA entries are open to VSCCA members only. This year we will have a touring class so you can enter that car that you normally do not take to race events. It is also ideal for those of you who do not race. You can drive your car at your own speed without having to worry about other cars on the track. Entrants do not need approval of the driver qualification committee and the car does not need a log book. The cars must be VSCCA eligible, have seat belts, fire extinguisher, coolant catch tank and be subject to a tech inspection. Driver must have an appropriate crash helmet and fire proof racing gear.

Because of the early start time on Saturday morning tech inspection will be held on Friday afternoon in the pit area.

The weather on the upper parts of the mountain is unpredictable. In the past we have had snow, rain, bugs, fog and 80 degree weather with 50 miles visibility. We recommend bringing cold weather gear and stowing it in your race car for the wait at the top.

Accommodations

Our headquarter hotel, and where our Saturday night dinner will take place, is the 1920’s Eagle Mountain House Resort (golf and pool) in Jackson, NH. We have blocked 25 rooms at $125.00 per night. Reservations can be made at 800 9665779 and must be made before August 12th.

Activities

The Mountain will be open for free antique car touring and tech inspection on Friday afternoon.

We will have an Italian buffet in the Lodge at the base of the mountain and across from the pits at 5:30 that evening. The charge is $33.00 per person including beer and wine.

We will serve a breakfast from 6:30 to 8:00 AM on both mornings at the lodge. The cost is $7.50 per person.

At the end of the runs on Saturday and Sunday the restaurants at both the top and bottom of the mountain will be open. You may wish to proceed south to North Conway and enjoy all their discount shops, take a ride up Mt. Washington on the coal fired tram or just enjoy the beauty of the mountains.

On Saturday evening we will have cocktails at 6:00 PM on the Eagle Mountain House veranda (pay as you go) followed by a buffet at $35.00 per person.

Where the 20 slots will be on a first come first served basis it is important for you to get your entry in ASAP.
