PAC Meeting Minutes–October 11, 2017

Attendees: Nicholas Chiu (Principle), Andrea Zeitz (Vice-Principle), Colleen Barndt (Co-Treasurer), Kelly-Ruth Mercer (Co-Treasurer), April Neville, Fatima Elamiri (Chair), Sonya Gardner, Betsy Ballantyne, Megan Oswell, Rita Chan, Grace Murray, Katie Riecken, Tanya Swenor, Alison, Cristall, Sarah Rosen, Melanie Worobec (recorder).

These minutes are in draft form and will be adopted at the next PAC meeting if members are in agreement.

  • Minutes from September 20 Executive Meeting were accepted.

  1. Break out by School
/ Main School:
  • Discussion and approval of Main School proposed budget deferred to next meeting
  • Looking at recycling fundraising to support Grade 5 and 6 field trips
  • $725.00 raised to date for Direct Drive
  • Hot dog day scheduled for October 13th
  • Investigating SafeTeen program for Main School (Kingsford-Smith has this program in place)
  • Bake sale scheduled for Nov. 3
  • Scholastic Book Fair scheduled for November 22, 23, 24
Annex:
  • PAC endorsement to participate in a pilot project re: methods for communicating student learning to parents. Sarah and Grace volunteered to participate as PAC representatives
  • PAC reviewed proposed budget – Sarah to update with discussed changed. PAC approved proposed budget
  • Reduce recycling projected income to $4,000.00
  • Increase Purdy’s projected incometo $1,100.00
  • Add $100.00 each for Library and Resource teacher to the Classroom funding
  • Field trip expenditure to include buses for Cates Park and $10.00/student
  • Performances scheduled & PAC funding approved for:
  • Drummer (Milton Randall) April 9th - $650 + GST
  • Gym Sense (Jan. 22-31) - $8.00/student + GST
  • Dance – TBD
  • Winter concert – date TBD
  • Scholastic Book Fair scheduled November 21, 22, 23
  • Other fundraising ideas:
  • T-shirt sales (school T-shirt and grade 3 hoodies) – Aaron to bring samples to next PAC meeting
  • Champlain Community Centre
  • Alison to contact if they will partner with Annex for recycling
  • Alison and Grace to see if any opportunity with Champlain Community Association
  • Spud On Line Grocery – Megan to investigate fundraising opportunity
  • Zumba Night
  • Trivia Night (Silent Auction)– Alison to investigate
  • Rummage Sale – Aaron to investigate

  • Investigate how to get a photo wrap of the Hydro Box in playground (Community grant?)
  • Investigate gluten free option for Pizza

  1. Principle’s Report (Main School)
/ Main School:
  • Good turnout for Cross Country this year
  • Teachers have been compiling comfort kits for kids
  • Outstanding staffing positions have been filled (Grade 2 and PT resource teacher)
  • Kingsford Smith transition is going well

Vice-Principle’s Report (Annex) / Annex:
  • Good turnout for Cross Country this year
  • Outstanding staffing position has been filled (grade 2 teacher)
  • BCIT student nurses will be attending Annex to provide a handwashing program
  • Photo day scheduled for Oct. 17th
  • Goal setting sessions are next week; 2pm dismissal
  • Killarney After School program registration next week

  1. Treasurer’s Report

  • Please refer to Treasurer’s report (Oct. 11)
  • Paper work underway to add Kelly-Ruth being as signing authority (as per June 2017 PAC meeting)
  • PAC approved decision to also add Fatima as signing authority to the account
  • Confirmation that there are 2 accounts – 1 for Gaming (both schools) and 1 for PAC (with sub accounts for each school Main and Annex)

  • PAC schedule – PAC meeting schedule was amended to be held on the 2ndTuesday of every month at 6:00pm
