Dear Ray et al.,

One additional request.

I am setting up a consortium to prepare a proposal for the security call of the European Commission’s DG Home Affairs. The proposal is to design, develop and deploy a harmonized CBRN training curriculum for first responders and medical staff. I am in desperate need of the latter. Nick Gent will help me but I need a continental partner for all official intents and purposes.

Any ideas?

Thanks and regards

Carlos

Dear Ray,

It does help provided the secretariat does file the request for the PIC number if you don’t have one

Dear Carlos,

The EBMT Nuclear Accident Committee is part of the EBMT, the secretariat of which is based in Barcelona, and if a major radiation incident occurred response and all other activity would be driven through the Secretariat...... I’m merely the Chairman

Does this help?

Dear Ray et al.,

Thank you very much for the swift and positive reply.

Before we continue with the planning, there is an issue that we have to clear: partnership with the UK is not allowed by the European Commission and therefore, although you may actively be involved in the project, the representation of the EBMT association will have to be from elsewhere. I do hope we can be creative on this. Secondly, the institution representing your organization has to be registered in the EC database or have participated in previous EC funded activities, i.e., be in possession of a partner identification code (PIC) number. If you guys don’t have it, a legal authorized representative has to access the ECAS system of the EC and proceed with the registration. Instructions on how to do this are attached

Regards

Carlos

Dear Prof Mohty,

I coordinated the European Commission funded project that delivered the handbook for the management of mass casualties after a malevolent act involving ionizing radiation “TMT Handbook” (

Due to the success of the first edition the European Commission encouraged me to present a proposal for the open call of DG Home affairs ( ). The call emphasizes on the need of training and therefore we could use it to get the funding we need to produce an updated version provided we include train the trainers activities.

At the moment I am seeking specialized MDs to update the radiological triage and medical treatment parts of the book and Dr Gent here in copy suggested to me that could include the EBMT society as a partner in the project.

Would you consider this? I would appreciate a prompt reply as the deadline to submit proposals is February 1st.

Kind regards
