  1. Job Purpose
The main purpose of the post is to co-ordinate and plan provision in English for students throughout the 11-18 age range who are in receipt of the Pupil Premium, those with SEN and those who have EAL in order to ensure the highest levels of achievement for them and to narrow the gap between their performance and the performance of other students in school.
  1. Dimensions
Students: Students studying English who are in receipt of the Pupil Premium, students with SEN and EAL.
Staff: The post holder will be responsible for leading the training and development of English inclusion strategies across the department.
The post holder will liaise with both teaching and support staff.
The post holder is responsible for providing support staff involved with the delivery of intervention sessions with appropriate resources and strategies.
Financial:
The post holder is responsible for any Pupil Premium, capitation and Development Funds allocated to the inclusion role in association with the Head of Department.
  1. Principal Accountabilities
  1. Identify the needs of students in receipt of the Pupil Premium and plan programmes to meet their needs. (Programmes typically aim to raise standards and create opportunities to motivate, stretch and challenge Pupil Premium students.)
  2. To monitor the progress and attainment of Pupil Premium students in English ensuring appropriate interventions are taken by the teachers and support staff to ensure that this group of students catch up with other students in school and are challenged to make outstanding progress.
  3. To plan, co-ordinate and help deliver additional interventions, additional “out of lesson” tuition and extra-curricular activities to meet the needs and engage students in receipt of the Pupil Premium.
  4. To support teachers and support staff to identify the needs of Pupil Premium students through the department and to support them to improve the performance and accelerate the progress of these students.
  5. To ensure Pupil Premium students are stretched and challenged in lessons and beyond the taught day through access to a range of stimulating opportunities
  6. Liaise with class teachers to identify the weakness of Pupil Premium pupils
  7. Monitor progress of the EAL and SEN students in English
  8. Deploy the English Department HLTAs and TAs to support individuals, whole classes and groups of students to provide additional support
  9. Provide appropriate resources for the intervention sessions to be delivered by HLTAs/TAs.
  10. Ensure subject specific training as required for HLTAs/TAs.
  11. To monitor the impact of the provision made.
  12. Report to HoD and SLT with summary of progress throughout the year after each key assessment cycle.
  13. After each assessment phase ensure that Pupil Premium students in need of intervention are identified and appropriate programmes put in place.
  14. Be a member of the Pupil Premium Strategy Group
  15. To liaise with the school's SENCO, English teachers and support staff to ensure that provision for SEN and EAL students in English is of high quality, leading to outstanding progress for these students.

5.Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
  1. Educated to Degree level in English or a closely relevant subject
  2. A teaching qualification
  3. Up – to – date knowledge of the teaching of English
  4. Experienced English teacher (minimum two years) with experience in a comprehensive school
  5. To have good understanding of the key stage 3 and 4 English curriculum.
  6. Excellent, current subject knowledge.
  7. Able to demonstrate successful outcomes for students in your classes in both Key Stage 3 and 4.
  8. Can demonstrate commitment to the life of the school outside the classroom
  9. Commitment to sustaining regular attendance at work.

  1. Performance Standards
The performance of the post holder will be measured through annual appraisal.
This will be carried out by the Head of Department. The review will consider performance against:
the principle accountabilities stated in this job description
the targets agreed in the previous year’s review
national standards relevant to the individual (e.g. Threshold/Upper Pay/AST)
