Position Title:Operations Supervisor - Sarnia Reports To: Regional Sales Manager

Summary Overview:This position provides manufacturing leadership and excellence to build a world-class operation. Lead, motivate, and develop employees to achieve outstanding manufacturing performance results, while leveraging Continuous Improvement (Lean/5S/6 Sigma) tools, improving individual skills, enhancing teamwork, focusing on plant production including safety, on-time delivery, quality control, protection of equipment, and departmental cost controls.

Primary Accountabilities & Result Areas:

  • Manage and develop production employees to achieve established goals of safety, quality, service, cost, and environmental performance.
  • Programming of CNC equipment (e.g. Lathe and Water Jet); as well as first piece inspection and verification.
  • Create and distribute production schedules for all areas of manufacturing.

Typical Duties, Actions and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures including: equipment, material handling and operations while maintaining healthy and safe work place.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S and 6Sigmaprinciples in production area.
  • Supervise, co-ordinate and schedule activities of employees.
  • Program and/or set up Haas ST30 lathe and Flow Water Jet Cutter.
  • Ensure personnel are trained and capable of executing their daily duties.
  • Lead and develop a positive, engaged and contributing workforce.
  • Lead regular production toolbox and safety meetings.
  • Maintain documentation as required.
  • Communicate business and operational data to employees daily.
  • Read and interpret drawings for translation to employees to ensure items are built to the customer’s specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized shop environment.
  • Determine and execute optimum manufacturing processes.
  • Assistance in training employees in problem solving techniques and on-the-spot production troubleshooting.

Experience Qualifications and Related Skills:

  • 5 to 10 years supervision experience; preferably in an union environment.
  • Strong production management skills.
  • Experience with Water Jet Cutting and CNC Turning Centres.
  • Demonstrated experience using Continuous Improvement or related strategies (Lean, TPM, and Six Sigma) to drive performance.
  • Ability to organize and direct oneself and effectively influence others to perform their jobs effectively and to be responsible for making decisions.
  • Ability to identify problems, develop creative solutions, and implement those solutions even in the face of adversity.
  • Excellent verbal communication and strong documentation and written skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office, and CAD software.
  • Comfortable with changing priorities.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed individual with the capability to multi-task.

Education Qualifications:

  • LEAN Manufacturing or similar Quality/Manufacturing certification an asset
  • CNC Operator Certificate or Machinist Ticket an asset
  • CAD Drawing Certificate an asset

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

  • High paced work environment with shifting priority
  • On production floor up to 40% of the time
  • Routine noise and temperature extremes
