Job Title:Assistant Laboratory Manager

Reports to:Laboratory Manager

Overview

This individual will assist the Laboratory Manager in a fast paced chemical manufacturing facility.Responsibilities will include reviewing and updating laboratory processes, reviewing and analyze the product test results, working with internal and external customers, and vendors to resolve problems.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Helps managestaff members, including participating in the hiring process, scheduling,technical and safety training, evaluating performance, and determining disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Helps manage the implementation and administration of all laboratory processes within guidelines; operates under general supervision, and receives direction on few topics and issues.
  • Will provide recommendations to ensure and/or improve quality products and services; such as laboratory procedures, working with functional groups to implement qualityinitiatives or changes, and ensuring overall efficiency.
  • Works with vendors, customers and internal departments to review material or product specifications, resolve product or operational quality problems, and addresses questions and concerns.
  • Comply with Laboratory regulations, train others to understand and comply with Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Ensures compliance with department/company policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Coordinates laboratory matters with other departments, locations and divisions, including senior management.
  • Proficiency with most laboratory software applications, utilization and maintenance of laboratory facility and laboratory instrumentation. Must have experience using the following pieces of equipment: ICP/MS, GFAA, TOC, Auto-titration, Anion and Cation.
  • Ability to respond quickly and prioritize activities to meet a changing production schedule.
  • Helps to prepare and steward the laboratory annual capital and expense budgets.
  • Be able to assist manager with technical and business reports, be comfortable making decisions and be ready to assume the role of a manager when the manager is not available.
  • Lead by example.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience of Lab leadership experience, preferably within the chemical manufacturing industry.
  • 5+ years in a lab environment.
  • Excellent communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • LIMS or other Laboratory software applications experience is preferred
