MegaCamp registration deadline is tomorrow

The deadline is Friday, May 10 for youth in grades 3-12 to register for MegaCamp. MegaCamp will take place June 2-8 at Camp Wood YMCA near Elmdale, southwest of Emporia. It is open to youth whether or not they are members of an Episcopal church.

The cost is $390 per camper, and some scholarship assistance is available. Registration materials are available online at

MissionPalooza registrations now are available. MissionPalooza is an urban mission trip in Kansas City July 15-21 at St. Paul’s in Kansas City, Mo. Youth get to select the site where they want to volunteer during the day, then all gather in the evenings for fun activities and workshops. The cost is $160, and some scholarship assistance is available. More information and registration forms are available at

Safeguarding God’s Children workshop offered this Saturday in Emporia

A Safeguarding God’s Children workshop designed to ensure a safe environment in churches will take place this Saturday, May 11 at St. Andrew’s, 828 Commercial in Emporia, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

There is no charge to attend, but pre-registration is required. To sign-up, contact diocesan Youth Missioner Karen Schlabach at or (913)708-5927.

This training is required for all who work regularly with children and youth in the Episcopal Church, and it is encouraged for others who are in leadership positions in parishes. The goal is to provide parish environments for children that are free from sexual abuse.

EFM has opening for training sessions

June formation training

Education for Ministry (EFM) is offering mentor training on June 13-15 in Topeka at Bethany Place and Grace Cathedral. The basic/in-service training for new mentors is full for this date, but there are still openings for the formation training. The cost is $85.

The training will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 13 and will finish at noon on Saturday, June 15. You can stay at Bethany Place for $40 a night or make other arrangements. Lunch and dinnerwill be provided, except for Friday night, when the group goes out to eat.

July basic training

Because of strong demand for the basic training, another basic training will take place on either July 18-20 or July 25-27. Let Morrow know right away if you are interested in this training, and if either or both dates would fit your schedule.

Most parishes have completed the Parochial Report required of all congregations in the Episcopal Church, but several have not returned some of the supplemental pages requested by the Diocese of Kansas.

Bishop Wolfe to be featured preacher on Day1 radio broadcast

Bishop Dean Wolfe will be the featured preacher May 26 on Day 1, the nationally syndicated ecumenical radio program that has been broadcasting every week for 68 years.

His sermon for Trinity Sunday is entitled “What Kind of Math Is This?”

The program also will include an interview with Bishop Wolfe by Peter Wallace, executive producer of the program.

Day 1, previously known as “The Protestant Hour,” features outstanding preachers from a variety of mainline denominations. The program is distributed to more than 200 radio stations across the United States and overseas.

Episcopal Social Services sponsors 5K “kindness” run

Runners, walkers and those who just like to make the world better are encouraged to sign up for the “Kindness Moves Me” 5K run/walk Saturday, June 15 sponsored by Episcopal Social Services of Wichita.

The race begins at 8 a.m. in front of the ESS offices at 1010 North Main in Wichita.

The cost to register is $25 in advance and $30 on race day. A 1K family fun run also is available. The cost for this is also $25 in advance and $30 on race day.-shirts are provided for all registrants.

ESS notes that this new community event is designed to help spread kindness, just as ESS and its partner Breakthrough Club “work every day to spread a little kindness to our community through feeding those in need and assisting people living with mental illness to gain more independence.”

KSM to offer a summer session on English mystical theology

The Kansas School for Ministry will offer a special course this summer on the English mystical tradition.

This course will help participants become more familiar with the sources and figures of English mystical theology, including the anonymous but influential textThe Cloud of Unknowingand medieval writers like Richard Rolle, Julian of Norwich and Margery Kempe.

Leading the class will be Dr. Jim Lewis.

The class will meet June 8-9 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Bethany Place Conference Center. The cost is $100 per person, which coversinstruction, lodging at the conference center and meals, but not books, travel or other incidentals.

All members of the diocese are invited to learn more about a neglected and often misunderstood segment of Anglican history, faith and practice.

Am I Called: Vocationers’ weekend designed for those exploring God’s call for their life

The diocesan Commission on Ministry will host a weekend gathering for anyone who currently is or who may be considering or may be considering a call to a major transition in their life. This may be a call to ordination, a new lay ministry or a new career.

This retreat will model the process, principles and practices of Christian discernment as one listens to God’s call. Participants will have an opportunity to interact with clergy and lay people from around the diocese and hear their stories of discernment.

It will take place August 2-3, from dinner on Friday through mid-afternoon on Saturday at Grace Cathedral in Topeka. Registration will be available soon.

Overnight accommodations will be at the Bethany Place Conference Center and at the Capitol Plaza Hotel at a discounted rate.

Kansas City chapter of Integrity offers “Believe Out Loud” workshop June 1

The Greater Kansas City Chapter of Integrity USA is hosting a “Believe Out Loud” workshop on Saturday, June 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Spencer Hall at St. Michael and All Angels, 6630 Nall Ave. in Mission.

It is designed to help people engage their church in meaningful conversations about becoming more welcoming to LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered) persons.

The cost to attend is $25 for those who aren’t members of Integrity, or $10 for students and seniors. Registration includes lunch.
