PROJECT COMPONENTS – A good majority of our Language Arts time will be dedicated to working on this project in class. Students are expected to do as much as they can during class time and may need to finish some components off at home.

Famous Person Picture: Due: Thurs. Feb. 11th , 2016

· Draw a portrait of your person, or find a photo online printed in color. Label your person’s full name in large neat lettering and include the date of birth and date of death. Write your first and last name and date in small lettering in the lower right corner of the paper.

Biography Notes: Due: Fri. Feb. 19th, 2016

· Read and locate information from at least three sources. Please restate your information in your own words. Do NOT copy word for word what the information says! You will need to cite your sources so be sure to complete the “Bibliography of Sources Used” form. Fill out the Bibliography Notes forms and complete using the information you have gathered.

Famous Person Poem: Due: Tues. Feb. 23rd , 2016

· Using “The Pattern” format, create a poem based on your famous person

· We will be learning this format in class

· The final product will consist of 20 lines, with each line having a specific purpose based on the pattern

Timeline Organizer: Due: Mon. Feb. 29th, 2015

· Complete the timeline organizer with at least 6 important events in your person’s life. Write your facts in complete sentences. You will need this information to create a final product in class.

Written Report Due: Mon. Feb. 29th, 2016

Type or write your final copy in your best writing about your famous person. Include information in a logical order to include:

· Where was this person born? In what year?

· Where did this person grow up?

· What does/did this person do for a living?

· Why is this person famous? What did/does this person do to become famous?

· How has this person made an impact on others’ lives?

· Interesting information about the person (you may want to include famous quotes, if any).

This is a report, written in 3rd person. You are explaining your famous person’s life to me in your

own words, not in the famous person’s words.

Cue Cards for Wax Museum Speech Due: Wed. Mar. 2nd, 2016

· Write the major points of your famous person’s life in their own words.

· For the presentation, you will be acting and speaking like your famous person.

· Write only jot notes on the cue cards that will help you remember what to say if you get stuck.

· Do not write your entire speech on the cue cards. Stick to jot notes and practice to memorize as much of your speech as possible.

Wax Museum Presentation Speech Due: Thurs. Mar. 3rd, 2015

This activity will give you another opportunity to meet your benchmark in public speaking. You will need to dress up as your person and pretend you are the person speaking.

Prepare a brief (2-3 minute) speech telling about your contributions, and about your life. Please rehearse at home. Try to memorize your speech if possible. You may use your notes if needed! Props that would be connected to your person’s life are encouraged. Please make sure your props are school appropriate (no weapons etc.). You will need to present yourself at our Wax Museum dress rehearsal for the class and then again that evening for your families.
