POSITION(S): James B. Pendleton Fellow in cinema studies; a 3 year, non-renewable, non-tenure eligible

position for Fall 1999.

QUALIFICATIONS: Fellow must be within 3 years of receiving Ph.D. A.B.D.s are not eligible. Fellowship is

for emerging teacher/scholars in the field of cinema studies.

RANK/SALARY: James B. Pendleton Fellow/Assistant Professor. Salary competitive, benefits eligible.

AREAS OF Fellow will team teach two introductory film aesthetics and analysis multi-section courses

TEACHING each term and one elective in their area of interest/specialization each year. Total course load

RESPONSIBILITY: per academic year is five. Elective courses may vary each academic year.

OTHER Fellow will be required to create one major public program each year of the fellowship,

RESPONSIBILITIES: involving either presentation of their work or a curated program. Fellow will not be

expected to serve on committees. Fellow will, however, be expected to interact with our undergraduates by

developing off-campus cinema experiences for course credit during summer and/or intercessions, editing an

on-line undergraduate student journal to publish film studies scholarship, and developing public programs

that facilitate quality interactions between guests and students. Fellows will formally advise undergradute

students.

of teaching and research interests; a short one-page proposal/outline for a sophomore/junior level course in

candidate^Òs specialty area; and names of three references by April 10, 1999. Additional writing samples

Ithaca College is an independent, residential, comprehensive college with an undergraduate enrollment of

approximately 5,600 students. It is located in the Finger Lakes Region of central New York.

The Roy H. Park School of Communications is one of four professional schools within the College, and

enrolls approximately 1,200 students in the majors of three undergraduate departments (Television-Radio,

Cinema and Photography, and Organizational Communication, Learning, and Design); a B.A. in Journalism,

a B.S. in Telecommunications Management, a B.F.A. in Film, Photography, and the Visual Arts, and a B.A.

in Media Studies are also offered. These programs are located in an 80,000 square foot building which was

dedicated in September 1989. For the past two years the Ithaca College Los Angeles Communications

Program has offered an internship-based full-semester program to its junior and senior students. The

Graduate Studies program offers an M.S. in Communications. A recent grant from the Park Foundation and

a bequest from James B. Pendleton totalling over $27 million have positioned the Roy H. Park School of

Communications to continue to evolve a curriculum that is one of the strongest in the nation and to maintain

state-of-the-art support facilities in audio, video, film, photography, multi-media and telecommunications.
