Vicky Gough, Schools Adviser at the British Council, said: “Understanding other cultures and languages has always been important for the UK’s place in the world but now, as Britain repositions itself on the world stage, it is absolutely vital. If we are to ensure that our young people – and the country as whole – keep ahead in the global race, we need to champion language and other international skills as invaluable for a generation growing up in an increasingly connected world.”

The British Council provides opportunities for teachers and students to develop partnerships and projects with schools in other countries, host foreign language assistants in the classroom, participate in international study visits, gain recognised accreditation for their international work and more.
