Application to set up a new Community RePaint scheme

The Community RePaint network consists of over 70 paint reuse schemes across the UK, whichdivert leftover paint from the waste stream by collecting and redistributing it into their local communities. As well as preventing a valuable resource from going to waste, they support those in need by supplying affordable paint for individuals, groups and charities and providing volunteering opportunities and training placements within their local community. In doing so the Community RePaint network provides social, environmental and economic benefits.

Each year it is estimated that over 50 million litres of paint are unused, stored or thrown away. Our schemes collect part-fullcontainers of leftover paint from the public, via local authority run household waste recycling centres, end-of-line and damaged tins from DIY retailers and paint manufacturers, and leftover paint from painters and decorators.

In 2016 the Community RePaint network:

  • Collected and diverted over 464,000 litresof unwanted paint from householders, traders and paint manufacturers.
  • Redistributed over332,000litres of paint to3,505 community groups and charities and over 419,000 individuals in need.
