August 2016

Greetings from the Mass State Assembly of Surgical Technologists

Dear Members,

I hope this newsletter finds you in a relaxed summer mode maybe preparing for vacation or just coming back from one. Many of us have recently returned from our national conference in SanDiego. If you have never attended a national conference I urge you to attend next year in New Orleans. It’s a great way to network with other technologists bond with friends and attend workshops and speaker events.

Most hospitals provide educational monies for employees to attend conferences. Inquire with your management team about sending someone from your dept. in 2017. Trust me it’s an experience you will never forget.

The BOD (board of directors) has been hard at work this year. As you know many questions and inquires surrounding our new Surgical Technology Law have been in the wind. I will post some FAQs on this site for all to go over and bring to their respective places of employment. Please know that this is an ongoing situation and one that we are monitoring closely. If you have any questions concerning anything related to our law please contact myself or anyone on the BOD. We will do our best to respond in a timely fashion.

Fall Conference is fast approaching. Please come out in support of our joint AORN, AST and CPSPD conference this year. Its affordable $25.00 for 5 ceus can’t beat the price Lunch included!!! We have a great raffle basket this year 11 piece set of Calphalon and will also have our WHO IS BEHIND THE MASK wine glasses and assorted surgical themed keychains available for purchase. This is a wonderful way to support your state assembly.

We will be holding elections at the business meeting and also voting for delegates to send to national conference in 2017. Please look on this site for more information.

The week of September 20 is National Surgical Technology Week. Celebrate yourselves and the hard work you do every day in the surgical suites across the state. I know how demanding our job can be an often times a thankless one. I want to say THANK YOU to all of you for showing up and making a difference.

Sincerely,

Michele Dodge CST FAST
