Resume Template Guide

for MSA, MSBA, MSF and MSTM students

[as of July 2017]

As part of your “Pre-Arrival To-Do List”, please format your resume using one of our sample templates. Note: The templates are in Microsoft Word formatso you can replace existing information with your information, keeping all formatting features of the template (best viewed using the latest Word versions 2010,2013, or 2016).

Each of the sample templates are slightly different so feel free to modify and choose the one that best fits your situation since we understand each of you have different backgrounds and profiles. Some key points to keep in mind:

  • Please keep your resume to one page and keep the font size to 11 or 12
  • For font style, we recommend any of the following: Calibri, Garamond, Helvetica, Tahoma, Verdana, Arial or Times New Roman
  • Your resume should be well organized, without spelling errors, and easy to read.

There are several sections, which you can include on your resume, depending on your background and experience, but here are the main sections to include:

1. EDUCATION

2. EXPERIENCE (e.g. full-time, part-time, internship)

3.ACTIVITIES(e.g. student organizations, volunteer experience, professional associations)

4.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION(this is where you include any skills such as technical skills, languages, licenses, and certifications. Do not include hobbies, interests, religious or political affiliations)

Note: Depending on your background and experience, you may also consider the following sections to add to your resume:

HONORS & AWARDS / LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE / PROJECTS
ACTIVITIES/LEADERSHIP / SKILLS / RELEVANT COURSEWORK

Final Words

As you can see, there are several sections to include on your resume and many ways to format and write your resume. Please choose the resume sections and format which best fit your situation while trying to keep your resume to one page (unless of course, you have substantial work experience).
