OUGHTERARD SHOW SOCIETY REGULATIONS
1. Show grounds open at 7.30am. Exhibits must be on show in the Community Centre before 11.00am. Exhibits must not be removed before 4.00pm without written permission from the Show Secretary.
2. Competitors are responsible if entered in classes which clash.
3. Exhibitors must satisfy themselves that their exhibits are in correct classes and bear correct number before judging commences.
4. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to be on time for the judging of their class.
5. The judges are empowered to withhold prizes in classes in which there is not sufficient competition or merit.
6. The judges’ decisions as to the merit in all classes shall be final. Any objections should be lodged
in writing with the secretary within 30 minutes following the completion of the competition, with a fee of €50, which will be returned if the objection is upheld. €50 per person per objection.
7. All exhibits must be bona fide property of exhibitor and in the Home Craft classes, must have been made by the exhibitor and not previously exhibited at the Oughterard Show. In the produce classes, exhibits must have been produced in the exhibitors farm or garden.
8. Market Gardeners shall not be eligible for garden produce classes. Factories shall not be eligible for home crafts section. Bakeries shall not be eligible for cookery classes.
9. No entry fee will be returned on entries not exhibited.
10. Classes with 2 entrants or less will be cancelled. The entry fee will be returned.
11. The committee will not be responsible for any loss or accident which may occur to exhibits, exhibitors or to the general public.
12. Exhibitors and spectators must obey the directions of the safety officer/stewards at all times. Any exhibitor or spectator who refuses to comply with such instructions do so at their own risk and Oughterard Show Committee accept no responsibility for any accident which may occur from non-compliance with safety officer / stewards instructions.
13. In the interest of safety all animals must be led by competent persons.
14. All Horses & Ponies and especially Foals must be shown in headstall, cavessons and / or to be led in bridle only. All cattle must be in headstalls.
15. No person shall be allowed to enter the judging ring in any class except the stewards of that class and those in charge of the animals. No steward shall officiate in any class in which he is an exhibitor, or wear his/her stewards badge while showing such exhibit. Any exhibitor interfering with the judging will be disqualified.
16. The judges shall have the power to have prize winning animals examined by a V.S, whose certificates shall be limited to the statement “Sound” or “Unsound”, soundness being a necessary qualification in every case. The Veterinary examination shall be of the standard to which the animal would be submitted for an intending purchaser.
17. The person to whom a cup is awarded shall give security to the committee that the cup shall be delivered to the secretary at least 14 days prior to succeeding show, and in the same condition as it was received.
18. Winners of confined sections may enter in open sections.
19. No animal or exhibitor should enter the ring wearing a rosette, except in a Championship.
20. 5% will be deducted from prize money in the Cattle, Pony, Horse & Sheep Section for the ISAChampionship fund.
21. Should any matter arise not provided for in these rules and regulations, the same shall be referred to the Executive Committee whose decision shall be final and from which there is no appeal.
22. The Show Committee and Directorsreserve the right to abandon or postpone the show or cancel / alter any class.
23. All entries must be lodged with the Entries Secretary by August 18th 2017.

GENERAL RULES FOR ISA CHAMPIONSHIPS 2017
A.ELIGIBILITY OF SHOWS
Shows wishing to participate in the 2017Championships and be eligible to hold qualifiers, must have collected the Championship Fund Levy (currently 5%) from Horse, Pony, Cattle & Sheep class prize money for the year2016 and forwarded the amount so collected, in full, to the Irish Shows Association Head Office within the stipulated period of not more than 30 days from the date of their show. Alternative methods of meeting this obligation are not acceptable.
Any show or competitor in breach of the Rules set out below will be disqualified from participating or competing in these Championships.
These General Rules and those relating to individual championships (where applicable) should be published in the show schedule and catalogue of the participating shows and must be strictly observed.
B. QUALIFYING ROUNDS (QUALIFIERS)
Qualifying rounds will take place at eligible shows selected by the Irish Shows Association.
C. RESPONSIBILITY OF SHOWS HOLDING QUALIFYING ROUNDS
a.Selected shows should hold a separate class for each qualifier from which the highest placed
animals will qualify.
b.The Qualifier Class should be held if possible as the 1st class in the relevant section of the show.
c.No other sponsor may be involved in qualifying classes.
d.Shows must ensure that the qualifiers are held strictly in accordance with the relevant rules.
e.Shows may charge an entrance fee for each qualifying class. The ISA will award a rosette to the successful Qualifiers on appearance at the Final.
f.No show hosting a Championship Final may hold a qualifier for that Championship on the day of the Final other than by agreement with the Irish Shows Association.However shows who hold qualifiers for Horses, Ponies and Cattle may ask exhibitors to enter the exhibit in at least one other class at their show on the day.
g.Animals qualified for Finals are not eligible to enter in any other class at the Show where the
Final is held other than a Qualifying Class for another competition.
h.Shows should appoint competent, well briefed persons to act as Stewards, who must ensure that only animals (or other exhibits) which are eligible to compete and those whose documentation is in order, are allowed to proceed to the judging ring.
i.Animal passports & “Micro Chips where applicable” should be read by a Veterinary Surgeon appointed by the show.
j.On completion of judging, Stewards should instruct the successful competitors to attend at the
Show Secretary’s office within one hour, and to complete the necessary documentation for entry to the championship final.
k.The show must appoint a well briefed officer who will be in attendance at the secretary’s office, and who will assist exhibitors to complete the necessary documentation forparticipation in the final and to collect the relevant entrance fee.
l.Show Secretaries must forward completed result cards, together with appropriate fees to the Irish Shows Association within three (3) days following the holding of the show.
NB: Shows must return result card marked “No Competition” for any or all of the eventsfor which no animal (or exhibit) has been selected.
D. RESPONSIBILITY OF EXHIBITORS
a. Exhibitors accept that the Judges decision is final in all cases. Any abuse of Judges will not be tolerated. Where a dispute or case for complaint arises, the matter should only be dealt with under f. below.
b.Winners of Qualifiers are themselves responsible for entering their animals (or exhibits)
for the final in accordance with j. and k. above, within one hour of qualifying.
c.Winners of qualifiers will compete in the final.
d.The Irish Shows Association in conjunction with the sponsor reserve the right to alter or amend the rules of any competition as may be necessary or appropriate.
e.Shows and competitors must contact the National Irish Shows Office for details of any championships and not the sponsor involved.
f.Objections must be lodged in writing with the ISA representative at the show or the show secretary within half an hour following the completion of the judging, together with a fee of €50, or other stated fee, which is refundable in the event of the objection being upheld.
g.Any Exhibitor who makes a false declaration or misrepresents a fact regarding themselves or their exhibit is liable to disqualification and or forfeiture of any prizes awarded.
E.RESPONSIBILITY OF SHOWS HOSTING CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS
a.A deduction of 5% of the prize money is to be collected by the show and forwarded to the Irish Shows Association within 30 days of the final.
b.Championship finals should start not later than 2pm on the day of the show and the advertised time of starting mustbe adhered to as far as practicable. If necessary other show classes should be either postponed or relocated to allow for this.
NOTICES OF INTEREST TO CHAMPIONSHIP PARTICIPANTS
IRISH LAW (EU DIRECTIVE)
Under Irish Law all horses moving from one location to another must be accompanied by their passports. It is in your own interest to ensure that this is the case. Failure to do so is an offence under Irish Law and is liable on summary conviction to result in a fine up to €3,000. All passports must be registered with the name of the current owner.
Embryo Transfer: Where a foal is produced by this method the dams passport must bear a declaration dated, stamped and signed by the stallion owner (or accredited practitioner where AI is involved) stating the date on which the dam was last covered (or inseminated) and the name of the covering stallion.
The owners of Champions and Reserve Champions are invited to submit the animals’ passports to the ISA head office where the placing will be endorsed and officially stamped with the seal of the Irish Shows Association as a permanent record.
It is in the interest of shows hosting championship Finals that photograph’s and results are forwarded to the Irish Farmers Journal immediately following judging.

Important Notice to Animal Owners.
The Irish Shows Association would advise all Animal owners who have their Animals Insured
to have the Insurance Cover extended to cover them while showing animals at shows.
We understand that it costs very little or nothing at all dependant on who you have the Insurance cover with.
The reason for us giving you this advice is that if your animal were to lash out and injure someone or damage someone’s property, and it is established that your animal was out of your control at that time, you may be held responsible or partly responsible for any injury or damages caused, and could end up paying all, or part of any settlement reached.
DISCIPLINE
The Irish Shows Association expects and will insist uponappropriate behaviour from all Exhibitors and others participating inany of the activities at our Member Shows and will not tolerateinappropriate behaviour.
Inappropriate behaviour shall include but not be limited to thefollowing:
- Profanity, coarse or vulgar language or gestures towards judges, exhibitors or other
Show Officials
- Harassment or bullying, including using words or actions that threaten, intimidate or
undermine judges or other officials before, during or following Member Show activities
- Failure to follow rules and/or obey instructions
- Abusing any animal
Disciplinary Procedures:
Complaints of misconduct against an Exhibitor or other participant at a Member Show shall be investigated and adjudicated upon by a subcommittee appointed by the Irish Shows Association. The said subcommittee shall consist of three members of the board of the Irish Shows Association and shall be known as the Disciplinary Committee. The Disciplinary Committee shall seek to ensure the existence of consistent, effective, fair and transparent complaint procedures and shall act in accordance with natural and constitutional justice. Rules for Powers Quarry 2017
- Qualifying rounds will be held at designated shows.
- Ponies 4 years old and over are eligible.
- More than one pony in each qualifying category may be selected to compete in the final provided the judges agree that the standard is high enough and may qualify a second pony.
- Judge of the day must sign the qualifying entry form (s)
- Pony and / or Rider once qualified are not eligible to participate in subsequent qualifiers in the same category. This rule may be waived by the Show Committee in exceptional circumstances e.g. sale of a pony or injury of rider prior to final. Permission from the Oughterard Show Committee must be granted prior to any previously qualified pony or rider competing in subsequent qualifying rounds. Failure to do so will result in the entry not being accepted.
- On completion of judging at qualifiers the successful qualifier will be given all relevant entry documentation by the ring steward. This must be completed and returned, along with the appropriate fee, to the secretary of Oughterard Show within 7 days - this rule will be strictly adhered to.
- Ponies must be registered in a main Connemara Studbook. The Passport of each pony must be
presented prior to judging at the qualifying show and on the day of the final.
- The rider must be under 18 years of age on 01/01/17. Birth certificates must be produced for inspection at qualifying rounds and on the day of the final.
- Registered Connemara Stallions must be ridden by a rider over14 years of age and under 18 years of age on 01/01/2017.
- Jumping over rustic/ natural fences will be part of the qualifying rounds and final. Qualifying rounds require a minimum of 4 fences. Jumps at qualifiers should not exceed 90cm in height and 90cm in width. Entrants from shows who do not adhere to this rule will not be accepted.
- The Final requires a minimum of 8 fences which will include a double and a technical related distance. Fences must not exceed 1m in height and 1m in width.
- Ponies to be ridden in a Plain Snaffle, Pelham or Double Bridle. Boots are allowed for the jumping phase only, and must be removed prior to the in-hand or Flat Sections. A running martingale is permitted in qualifiers and in the Final but spurs are prohibited. The same tack must be used in both phases.
- A performance judge must be used at qualifying shows.
- Ponies will be judged on type, Confirmation, Jumping technique, way of going and action in-hand.
- Random Dope testing may be carried out on the day of the final.
- Any objection must be lodged in writing with the show secretary within half an hour following the completion of the competition, together with €50 which is refundable if the objection is upheld.
- Oughterard Show Committee, in consultation with the sponsor, reserves the right to amend the rules as may be deemed necessary.
* It is strongly advised by the Oughterard Show Society that all competitors should
wear a body protector and recommended helmet.
* Qualifying Rosettes will be presented at the Final
Entry Fee to Final: €25
Prizes are as follows: 1st €600, 2nd €400, 3rd €200, 4th €150, 5th €100, 6th €50
All other finalists will receive a rosette on appearance in the final.
Supreme Champion:
Winner will receive: The Cannonball Cup
A Trophy will be presented to the breeder of the Supreme Champion
Points Awarded: The Competition will be judged in two phases giving total maximum points of 165
Marking:
Phase 1 – Jumping
8 fences (one is a double) marked 0-10 for each fence.
Points will also be awarded for way of going 0- 20

Each Fence Knocked: -5
