Project Abstract:

An ordering system will be created where the user will be able to order and pay for the food from the comfort of his table. Consisting of a touch screen, the user will be able to choose from the menu, add to cart and pay for the order using a RFID gift card. The order will be sent to the receiving module through a wireless 802.15.4 interface.

Design/Functionality Overview:

Our design project ‘Touch 2 Order’ consists of a touch screen which displays the menu and allows the user to add food items to the cart and pay for it using a RFID gift card. The order is wirelessly transmitted to the receiver.

The motive behind this project is to reduce human labor in fast food restaurants such as McDonalds. By creating such a kind of device it enables customers to order food quickly without waiting for someone to take the order. Using RFID gift cards for paying also makes it more secure and fast.

The basic function of the finished device is to display the menu and allow the user to select items from it and add them to cart. When finished selecting the user can order them with a single touch and pay the bill using a RFID gift card. The order is wirelessly transmitted and is received by a device for example a computer.

The total estimated cost for the completion of our design is around $900. It is split among the touch screen ($600), RFID tag and reader ($60), RAM ($50), ZIGBEE RF module for wireless transmission ($40), Microcontroller ($10), total packaging and finishing cost ($100).

Although all the team members will be working on each part of the design one individual will lead the others in his area of expertise. Srichand Yella will be taking care of the application interface which is used in the receiving module where the orders from our design are transmitted. Anvesh Dasari will be mostly contributing in the software we need in our design. Varun Vallabhaneni will be mostly concentrating on the hardware designing of all the parts we use and final packaging of the device. Madhu Tummala will look over the RFID wireless interfacing and web designing.

Project-Specific Success Criteria:

1.  An ability to display menus on the touch screen.

2.  An ability to receive commands from touch screen.

3.  An ability to communicate over an 802.15.4 interface.

4.  An ability to look up personal account details from the database by the user’s RFID card.

5.  An ability to display the order transmitted in receiver module.
