The Rowdy Aggie Classic II

Invite

Friends,

It is with great excitement that we announce the return of the Rowdy Aggie Classic. It has been several years since we had the first Rowdy Aggie and we are thrilled to renew the partnership between the programs of Texas A&M University and McNeese State University. With that, you are cordially invited to the 2nd Rowdy Aggie Classic to be held on the campus of Texas A&M University November 9-11 2012. The first half will include Parliamentary Debate and all 11 AFA Individual Events and will be hosted by Texas A&M. The 2nd half will include all 11 AFA Individual Events and will be hosted by McNeese State University. We look forward to seeing everyone in College Station in November.

Sincerely,

Andy Luster Dominic Odom

Assistant DOF Team President

McNeese State University Texas A&M University

The 2nd Rowdy Aggie Classic

A&M Invitational/ Bill Casey Invitational

November 9-11 2012

General Notes:

1.  Parliamentary debate will have 5 rounds on Friday with appropriate elimination rounds. There will be two divisions of Parli (Open and Novice). The tournament director has the right to collapse divisions based on entries. If there are not enough entries to warrant a novice division then a novice final will be held between the two highest ranked non-advancing novice debate teams. The first 2 rounds of Parli will be pre-matched with rounds 3-5 power matched.

2.  Individual Events for both halves will have 2 rounds and a final. There will be two patterns of events on Saturday and three patterns of events on Sunday to accommodate the size of the tournament and also the rooms available on the A&M campus. Events with over 60 entries will go to semi-finals. A school is not limited on the number of entries they may have in any event, however the tournament director reserves the right to have multiple students from the same school in a round to allow use of judges from that school. Also, only the top 5 entries from a school in each event will count towards team sweepstakes. Material must not have been used in competition prior to September 1, 2012. Students may enter up to 3 events per pattern on Saturday and 2 events per pattern on Sunday for a maximum of 6 events. It is up to competitors to make it to rounds on time. Judges will not wait for you.

3.  Patterns

  2. A- EXT, POI, PER, DUO, POE, CA
  3. B- IMP, PRO, INF, DI, ADS
  4. Sunday

Judging:

1.  Debate: Each team is expected to bring one qualified judge for every two debate teams.

2.  IE: Each team is expected to bring one qualified judge for every eight slots entered in the tournament.

Fees:

1.  Debate: $40 for each team. Uncovered entries will be an additional $40

2.  IE: $8 for each IE slot. Uncovered IE slots will be an additional $10

3.  Drops: Drops may be made until Wednesday November 7th at Noon without penalty. After this time we will impose a late drop fee of an additional $20 per IE slot and $80 per debate team. A judge drop after the deadline will impose a $50 penalty. IE slots dropped on the day of registration will impose an additional $50 penalty. Debate slots dropped on the day of registration will impose an additional $100 penalty. Judges dropped on the day of registration will impose a $100 penalty. Judges who fail to pick up ballots will be imposed a $25 penalty and students will not be advanced to out rounds from the judges school until this penalty is paid. (PLEASE… WE WANT JUDGES… NOT MONEY).

Deadlines:

All entries for both halves of the swing are due to Andy Luster () or 337-475-5930 by 5pm on Tuesday November 6th.

Awards:

1.  Individual Awards will be given out to all semi-finalists and finalists in IE events and all out-round participants in debate. Trophies will be given out to all debate out-round participants and the top 5 speakers in each division. Certificates will be given to all IE out-round competitors in the A&M half of the swing and a donation will be made in your name to the Collier Patton Memorial Scholarship fund. This fund was created to memorialize a friend to both the A&M and McNeese teams who passed away earlier this year. We know school administrations like trophies, but we feel that this is a gesture that can go well beyond any pieces of metal and wood could. Trophies will be given out to students who advance to semi-finals and finals of the McNeese portion of the swing. Also, per tradition, there will be awards for top-novice in each event in both halves of the swing.

2.  Quadrathon: Students who enter 4 events or more (with at least 1 event in 2 of the 3 genres of competition) will be entered automatically in quadrathon. The top 3 competitors from each half will receive awards in quadrathon. Also, the top competitor in the swing will receive a swing quadrathon award.

3.  Team Sweeps: There will be awards for the top 3 schools for each half of the swing. Awards will also be given to the top 3 schools in debate during the first half of the swing. There will also be 1 award given to the top school who accrues the most points during the entire swing.

4.  Scott Jensen Director’s Cup: A tradition started at McNeese in 2009 was the creation of the Scott Jensen Director’s Cup. This is a cumulative sweepstakes award given to the Pi Kappa Delta chapter that has the most points at the end of the tournament on that Sunday. That team will win the award and go into the next year with zero points to start over again. The first winner was Wiley College in 2009 and then was left vacant for 2010 and 2011. We are happy to be bringing back the award and look forward to passing it on to the next Pi Kappa Delta chapter that shows continued success.
