PTA Meeting Minutes for May 11, 2015
Call to order: Meeting was called to order by Gayle at 7:00 PM
Review and approval of minutes: Jean K. made a motion to approve the minutes with note of date updates to previously distributed; seconded by Anne F.
Treasurer’s report: Roxanne reviewed the treasurer’s report. Our current balance as of 5-11-15 is $21,661.78. The 2015-16 proposed budget was reviewed with noted change in the Program Liaison expense line item and increase in Hersheypark income. All questions were addressed and Jean K. made a motion Anne F. seconded the motion. Motion to accept the proposed budget was approved.
Jean K. made a motion to earmark $18,000.00 of unused monies from the 2014-15 budget for technology/outdoor sign or other approved item during the next budgeted year for the Principal Technology fund seconded by Beth M. Motion passed unanimously.
Correspondence (Secretary’s report): Mrs. Kerschner's Thank you note was shared.
Committee reports
Assemblies: Diane S., Chair: The Brain Quest assembly was enjoyed by all. We will need a new Chair for next year. NOTE: to increase the budget if it is decided to offer additional microphones for the assembly next spring.
Box Top for Education: Pamela A., Chair. Please continue to cut the box tops out over the summer. Roxanne E. will be chairing the committee next year.
Dance/Socials: Anne F., Chair. Two socials (winter and spring) are scheduled each school year sponsored by the PTA. We are also asked to assist with the student council social in the fall. Beth has been given committee details to share with new committee Chairs.
Eighth Grade Send Off: Sharrel V. and Jane B., Co-Chairs. The date was confirmed for the 8thgrade sendoff; May 29th (8am – 2:15pm) with the rain date June 1st. Activities are being confirmed and everything is in place. If anyone would like to volunteer for the day, please e-mail Sharrel
Five Below Fundraiser: Jean K, Chair. No report
Fundraiser: Michelle S., Chair. We are waiting to confirm our date for the fall.
Hersheypark: Dena. We should be receiving a check shortly. Continue to check the website for upcoming dates.
Hospitality: Tammy B., Chair. Assisted Teacher Appreciation week with the sweat treats.
Legislative/PAC: Jean K., Chair. No report other than the reminder that they will be putting together the policy of who needs to have background checks for those individuals who are working directly with the children.
Membership: Julie W., Chair. No report.
Ram’s Make a Difference: Jamie Z. and Nancy W., Co-Chair. No report. The new chairs will be working with Mr. Matzner
Program Liaison: Jackie W.; no report
Reflections: Bill M & Claudia M., Co-Chair. There will be a Regional ceremony on May 31st recognizing CDMS and other regional winners.
Scholarship: Jean K., Chair. The selection committee consisting of 5 members (4 volunteers and 1 teacher) selected four recipients this year out of 14 applicants. They will be receiving a certificate this coming Tuesday evening, May 12th at 7pm at the High School at the awards event. One student stood above the rest with strong academics, community service and essay. All reviews were completed electronically with a score card.
School Spirit Wear: Jackie W. B., Chair. All set for next year; September 7th is set.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation: Chrissy, Chair. Thank you for planning the menu and food for the teachers and staff. Everyone enjoyed.
Volunteer Committee: Diane S., Chair. The librarian is in need of volunteers. This committee will need a new committee chair.

A motion was made by Jackie W. seconded by Anne F. to accept the slate of offices for the 2015-16 school year. The motion unanimously passed. Gayle welcomed the new officers and thanked them.
The CDMS PTA By-Laws were reviewed. Jean K. made a motion to accept the new by-laws; seconded by Michele S. The motion passed.
Gayle presented Anne Fitzpatrick and Roxanne Ebert with the PA Honorary State Life Membership. The PA Honorary State Life Membership Award isthe highest honor from the nation’s largest child advocacy organization, the PTA,to the person who daily lives out his or her commitment to children. The award recognizes and thanks that special person who goes above and beyond for all children,the one who acts as a tireless advocate for children’s education, health, and well-being.
Principal Report: Remind parents of the upcoming dates available on the agenda and the 6th grade concert this evening. He thanked the outgoing board and welcomed the new Board. Mr. Matzner wanted to share that Mrs. Batdorf will be leaving to be the Principal at Paxtonia Elementary and Mr. Jim Miller will be joining CDMS staff.
