The Business Office helping employeeswith trouble shooting ESS when entering direct deposit information.
Listed below are a few tips. If these attempts do not work, then a phone call to the central payroll office can be placed, if still unresolved payroll may suggestthe employee come to the payroll office directly to resolve the issue.
“General Information”
A)Check hire date in PA20 - if more than one position, enter most recent hire date
B)Check for correct date of birth in PA20
C)Employees are encouraged to use a Purdue computer
D)If NOT using a Purdue computer have employee verify browser information -- this is available on the main banking screen (ESS,Personal Information, Bank Information)
Common error messages an employee may get:
“Service is locked”
A)User already has their employee record open (this could be from another device)
B)Employee was in ESS and did not choose the “Logout Button” in top right hand corner
C)After 3 attempts the user is locked out and the lock is automatically resetafter 15 minutes.
“You are not authorized to use this application”
A)Portal roles have not yet been assigned
B)After 3 attempts the user is locked out and the lock is automatically resetafter 15 minutes.
“Incorrect Entry”
A)User has an account on file but on the initial screen checks that they do not
B)Account number must be the “full account number”
C)Hire date needs verifiedin PA20 – if more than one position, enter most recent hire date
D)Date of birth needs verified in PA 20
“Portal roles have not yet been assigned to your user ID”
Typically for new hires/rehires. Roles have not been set up in full completion.

Click on the link
Click on OnePurdue Portal
Type your career account and password
Click on Employee Self Service
Personal Information
Bank Information
There are two options to choose from:

You should then see

Click “OK” button in box
You should be immediately re-directed to the bank screen
Once the bank screen opens you will select "edit" “Main Bank”
Here you will ONLY complete the following:
Bank Number – (Which is your bank routing number)
Account number-- Provided by bank
Choose type of account (i.e. Checking or Savings)
Payment Method – Select Direct Deposit
Purpose – (This is for your own personal use – You do NOT have to put anything here)
Go thru the review and save process
Use the “Log Off” button on the top right hand side of the screen.
If an employee wants to change/delete
“Main Bank”
This can be done by “editing” and overriding the information that is currently entered.
“Other Bank”
This can be done by “editing” to make a change or if wanting to delete select the “Delete” button.
