Investing in Children

From theCoalition Charter

Our Mission: Strengthening the impact of individual and collective efforts for the success of young children and families in South Central Washington. OurSouth Central Washington region is defined by the boundaries of the ESD 105 Region.

Coalition Objectives

  • Strengthen our relationships with others in the community and our impact on children and families by sharing information and understanding our common and diverse needs and perspectives, giving voice to them at the state level and discussing and disseminating information about needs, opportunities and best practices
  • Stabilize and extend the reach of local and regional resources by connecting with other regional groups, prioritizing mutually reinforcing activities, aligning our actions, and mediating conflict
  • Serve our community effectively by focusing on a common agenda of benefit to children and families that reinforces and is reinforced by the State Early Learning Plan
  • Increase understanding and proof of our impact by gathering common data about what is happening for families, what we are doing, and the impact of our actions
  • Build a seamless system of supports and services for families through cross-sector coordination
  • Strengthen our collective effort by committing time, resources and influence in support of our agenda
  • Work together to increase support and resources for our Coalition Action Plan
  • Advocate for children’s success with community leaders, policy makers and the media
  • Use a strengths-based approach to engage and empower families through communication, relationship building and service

Principles

  • We are focused on the actions that best serve the long-term needs of children and families in our region
  • We drive toward a common agenda while identifying and acknowledging unique needs and goals when necessary
  • We engage our diverse stakeholders and communities through formal and informal methods
  • We engender a feeling of equity of access, authority, accountability and achievement for Coalition actions
  • We strengthen personal relationships that form the backbone of our successful endeavor
  • We foster open, transparent and constructive communications in all that we do
  • We bring passion to the work and support others who are passionate about families in the moments of challenge and joy
  • We strive to be nimble and assess all opportunities that will advance the Coalition Action Plan so that we can move quickly and appropriately as opportunities arise and needs change
  • We value the courage to speak and act in ways that advance and sustain our collective impact
  • We hold ourselves and each other accountable for our commitments to each other and the Coalition and for making measurable results for the children and families we serve
  • We value, encourage and integrate the diverse voices of the South Central Washington community as we develop plans and actions.

Current Charter Commitments

  1. We commit to prioritizing the needs of children and families over our individual organizational interests whenever possible
  2. We commit to bringing early learning issues of regional concern to the Coalition table
  3. We commit to supporting the Coalition’s priorities, principles, and objectives as expressed in this Coalition Charter and our Action Plan. We commit to reviewing, revising and endorsing our initial Coalition Charter after the first nine months and then every 2 years
  4. We commit to finding ways to align our individual agency work plans, position descriptions and other elements of organizational design to systemize our membership in the Coalition and to sustain a coordinated approach to serving children and families.
  5. We commit to open and transparent communication and decision-making. We listen to understand, share openly and speak constructively even when disagreeing. We clearly state the constituenc(ies) whose perspective we are representing
  6. We commit to volunteering for leadership roles on issues and functions where we have expertise
  7. We commit to work together to engage tribal nations, state and local policymakers and others to advance regional early learning priorities
  8. We commit to taking time to strengthen the individual, organizational and community relationships that drive our success
