THE RURAL YOUTH TRUST

The RYT was created in 1991 in order to build a capital fund which would provide an income for NFYFC in the event of their government grant for training and development programmes coming to an end. It was felt that at some time in the future, the YFC modus operandi may not fit government policy or such policy may place unacceptable conditions on NFYFC, or even that the whole policy of grant-aiding an independent voluntary body could change.
Given that NFYFC is always fundraising for current programmes and that sponsors are evermore keen to see their name linked to an activity, it was decided to fundraise beyond YFC, so the Trust set their pitch to the wider rural community and created The Rural Youth Trust, with a particular emphasis on rural youth work of the type carried out through YFC.
The fund is small compared to many others, but grants are available for the establishment of new YFCs or similar (£500); other grants can be made for rural youth work, training and personal development. It must however, be noted that there are specific exclusions and these are listed on the attached “Criteria for Grant Aid”.
The next meeting of the Rural Youth Trustees will be held on Tuesday 13 April 2010 at which applications could be tabled for consideration.
Application forms are available from: Mrs Sandra Bromley, Secretary, Rural Youth Trust, C/O NFYFC YFC Centre, 10th Street Stoneleigh Park, Kenilworth Warwickshire CV8 2LG
