Dear Families of 3-C,

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Please note that your child is responsible for bringing in a “selfie” for a Spanish project by this Wednesday, 12/6. Please refer to the classroom webpage for more details.

In math, the children are learning a few more strategies for solving addition and subtraction problems that contain large numbers. Later in the week, they will also spend more time exploring how to represent data on a scaled bar graph. Please note that we are skipping Homelink 3.4 so the children should complete 3.5 for homework tonight.

In reading, the children are finishing up their work in our current unit on nonfiction. We are spending the last couple of days working to understand what type of thinking nonfiction readers do when they read a book that is written partially in the expository format, while also having some narrative features as well. We will shift our focus back to fictional reading at the beginning of next week.

In writing, the children are in the last stretch of the expert writing unit. Throughout the week, the kids will be revising, editing, and publishing their books! I can’t wait to celebrate their hard work by adding their texts to our classroom library!

Finally, the Scholastic order forms for the month of December were sent home today. If you are interested in ordering, the due date is set for December 11th. This early due date will help to ensure that we receive the books before leaving for winter break. Please reach out if you have any questions!

Have a great week,

Cayla Casey
