Newham CCGWho Can register With Us?

Beckton is a growing area. We only allow people living close to us to register. Our area is south of the A13 or The Greenway, east of Prince Regent Lane and north from Gallions Reach. If you live outside the area, we will ask you to find another doctor. If you move out of our area, we will ask you to find another doctor closer to your new address.

How to Register

You can register at any time when we are open. You will need to supply your NHS number (this is essential) and two forms of identification one of which must be photo ID and the other must show your name and address.

Our Appointment System

We only see patients for routine consultation if they have previously made an appointment. Because of the number of people asking for medical attention, it is not usual for you to see a doctor the same day. We usually offer you an appointment within two working days but may have to wait longer if you ask for a specific doctor or nurse.

You can always ask to see the doctor you prefer. However, this may involve a slightly longer wait if that doctor is booked. You may then choose to see another doctor with an earlier free appointment. It is up to you. You can book appointments using the Internet.

If you make your appointment over the telephone, please make a careful note of the date and time. If you arrive after your appointment time it is unlikely that you will be seen and you will have to make another appointment.

Parking

The roads around the centre are very busy, especially during the afternoon. You must allow sufficient time to keep your appointment. Whilst we understand that the delay may be due to reasons beyond your control, we may still require you to re-book for another day.

Missing Appointments

We have many people asking to see a doctor or nurse. It is important that you let us know in advance if you are unable to attend. If you do not come for, or miss your appointment, we will make a note of this in your record. If you do it again, we may ask you to find another doctor.

Repeat Prescriptions

We process repeat prescriptions within two working days BUT ONLY IF you use the correct form (attached to the previous prescription). You can order repeat medication, over the Internet or by post or fax (020 7473 9388). We do not accept orders over the telephone.

Home Delivery of Prescriptions

Many pharmacies now offer a home delivery service. If you wish a local pharmacy to deliver your medicines to your home, you must arrange this with the pharmacy yourself. We will not do this for you nor accept any responsibility for managing the home delivery ofmedicines or any failures arising from the service.

Our Team

Our team of doctors, nurses, receptionists and secretaries try to meet the needs of you all. However they care for 16,700 patients so they cannot always give you what you would like when you would like it. Please understand this and treat them with the courtesy and respect that you expect from them. It’s not their fault.

We do not tolerate either violent or abusive behaviour towards our staff or other patients. If you behave in such a way, we will remove you from our list immediately and you will have to find another doctor.

We welcome all comments and suggestions either verbally or in writing. Please ask to speak to the Practice Manager or write to him at the address shown overleaf.

Complaints and Comments

Should you wish to complain about us or a service we offer, then please contact the Practice Manager. You can write, telephone, fax or ask to see her face-to-face. She will explain the complaints procedure to you and ensure your complaint is dealt with promptly.

Removal From Our List

We operate a “zero tolerance” policy on abusive or aggressive behaviour. Any patient who behaves in such a fashion will be removed from our list immediately. If you miss more than one appointment, we may remove you from our list.

Telephoning Us

We do try to answer your call quickly but there are times when we are really busy. If you can, it is better to wait until after 9:15am and also avoid phoning between 12:00 and 14:00.

We answer all calls in the order they arrive. It is usually quicker to hang on rather than to keep re-dialling; you simply go to the back of the queue.

If you are phoning to make an appointment, please make sure you have paper and pen before you call. Always note down your appointment time. We answer many calls each day from people who have forgotten their appointment details and these can “clog” up the system.

Our doctors operate a policy of not taking calls whilst they are seeing their patients. We will take a message and the doctor will phone you back between or after their session has ended. If you do not explain why you wish the doctor to call, the other calls will be returned first.

Home Visits

The doctors will only visit people at home if they cannot get to the surgery because of their medical condition. We do not make home visits because you don’t have the means to reach us. There are a number of transport options available to those who cannot provide their own transport including minicabs and the “Dial-a-Ride” service. For further information please contact London Borough of Newham.

Sharing Information about You

There are strict rules about how and with whom we can share information held in your medical record. The general rule is that you have to give your consent beforewe share your record with anyone outside the practice. We may share information for monitoring and research purposes but unless you have given your consent, this will be done in a form that makes it impossible to identify you.

The practice manager is the data controller under the Data Protection Act 1998 and you should contact him if you have any questions on your medical record.
