Donation of Books: The Union Chapel Music Ministry "Church-Wide Book Campaign" has begun
and will run through Friday, February 29, 2008. The donated books will be used to assist in the development of the Union Chapel Christian Academy Library and will be donated to area schools. Books needed include Bibles (Student and Children's), African-American History Books, Almanacs, Cultural Books, etc. Plastic bins are located at each of the Church entrances in which to place your book donations. Foreclosure Prevention Workshop: On February 7th, the Economic Development Ministry will hold a workshop designed for everyone. It does not matter if you own a home, do not own a home, or just know someone who is thinking about buying a home, this workshop will give you useful expert information to assist friends, co-workers, relatives, or a friend of a friend through challenging times. Topics covered in the Workshop include: l) How to buy more time to catch up on payments; 2) Fourteen survival options the lender will not tell you about; 3) Where to find free help; 4) The key clause that every home buyer should have included in his or her promissory note; 5) And much, much more. The workshop will be held in the Union Chapel Church Fellowship Hall on Thursday, February 7, 2008, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. The workshop will be conducted by Ms. Sandrea Tibbs, Alabama A&M University CDC Housing Manager/Credit Counselor and Mr. Eric Moton, Real Estate Professional.
Old Time Gospel Singing: You are invited to join the S.A.M. Ministry and the Union Chapel Church Family in a “Songs of Praise Glorifying God, Old Time Gospel Festival” to be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2008, here at Union Chapel Church. The guest singer will be Sis. Effie Gaines of the St. Bartley P. B. Church and members of our own Church family. Dedication and Open House: The dedication of the new facility for the Union Chapel Christian Academy will be held on Sunday, February 10, 2008, at the 10:45 a.m. worship service. The Open House will be held immediately following the dedication.
Marriage Enrichment Workshop: For married couples and singles contemplating marriage, the Marriage Enrichment Workshop (Session One), to be led by Pastor and Sis. Davis is only two weeks away.
The workshop will be held on Friday and Saturday, February 15 -16, 2008. The Friday night session will commence at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 9:00 p.m. The Saturday morning session will commence at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 11:00 a.m. Nursery services will not be provided during this session. The topics to be discussed are "BACK TO THE BASICS" and "HOW TO SURVIVE AN ATTACK ON YOUR MARRIAGE.” You may continue to sign up at the Welcome Center and be sure to invite your friends and family members.
Youth Programs
Super Bowl Fellowship: The Youth Ministry will hold a Super Bowl Fellowship on Sunday, February 3, 2008, from 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. for ages 13 – 25 years old in the Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of the televised half-time presentation, we will have our own praise and meditation with Min. Anthony Plenty and the Praise Dance Ministry. In addition to watching the game, youth can partake in Bible trivia games, rap sessions, and approved video games.
Tutorial Program: The Union Chapel Tutorial Program will begin again on Wednesday, February 6, 2008, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. in the Union Chapel Tutorial Room. Tutoring services will be offered in all subjects. Students grades K-12 are invited to participate in this program. The Tutorial Program is in need of tutors; if you are interested in being a tutor or participating in the program, please contact Sis. Jenise Showers or the Church Office.
Young Women’s Ministry: The Young Women's Ministry will be viewing the movie, “SoulMate,” a film by Andrea Wiley on Friday, February 15, 2008, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Our very own, Sis Kim Floyd, will be facilitating this event. “SoulMate” explores the national phenomenon that 40% of black women have never been married and that 70% of all black women are now single. The film takes an intimate look at the lives of accomplished professional Black women who are finding purpose while single and offer practical advice from some of the nation's leading Christian leaders. All young ladies, ages 18 and up, are invited to attend. We are also inviting the seasoned women of the Church. Food and fellowship will be available immediately following the viewing. To ensure we can accommodate the number of attendees, please sign up at the Welcome Center or contact Sis. Candice Howell.
Career and Recruitment Day: The Education Assistance Ministry will have their Annual HBCU Career and Recruitment Day on Saturday, February 16, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Recruiters or their representatives from more than 30 institutions will be present to pass out information on what their schools have to offer and the enrollment process. All High School students and their parents are encouraged to come out and secure this valuable material. This event is free and open to the public.
Spring Break Trip: Balances for the Spring Break trip are due by Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Payments can be made each Wednesday from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Welcome Center. If you are not able to make your payment on Wednesday, please contact Sisters Wanda Nall, Traycine Rice or Phyllene Washington to make your final payments. The final itinerary will be available after Wednesday, January 23rd. All children under the age of 13 years must be accompanied by an adult.
Scholarships
Scholarship opportunities are available on the Church Announcement Board today for those who are interested.
General Information
Educational Services: Southern Educational Services will be offering free tutoring to students who attend the following schools: Westlawn, Stone, Chapman Middle, and Davis Hills. For more information contact Glenn Clayton at 256.325.2616.

Employment Opportunities:
Union Chapel has immediate openings in the Child Development Center for full-time and part-time Day Care Workers; interested persons may apply in the Church Office any weekday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Congratulations to Bro. Kenny and Sis. Sekitha Nunn who celebrated their 9th wedding anniversary on Monday, January 28, 2008. May God continue to bless the Nunn family.
Congratulations to Bro. Derrick Sr. and Sis. Laveda Jackson who had a daughter born on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at the Women and Children Hospital (Huntsville Hospital-East). Lauryn Kennedy weighed in at 6 lbs. and 17.5 inches long. Bro. Dewan and Sis. Jennyfer Frazier are the blessed grandparents. May God continue to bless the Jackson and Frazier family.

Mr. Otis Johnson, the brother of Bro. Archie Scott, passed on Thursday, January 24, 2008, in Tulsa, OK. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2008, at the Reynolds Funeral Service located at 1916 South Sheridan Road, Tulsa, OK.
