Context
Across the UK, more than 1 in 6 people of all ages live with the pain and disability of arthritis. The impact is enormous and so much more needs to be done. Arthritis Research UK is determined to change things and improve the quality of life for people living with arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions. By 2020 our aim is to have made a positive and tangible change to the lives of people with arthritis so that are independent, informed and recognised.
These are exciting times for Arthritis Research UK; the organisation has been through a period of rapid growth and development and has ambitious plans for the future. The organisation has been reviewing its strategy, structures and systems in several areas to ensure that we are best able to deliver success. One of our strategic objectives is ensuring that we recruit, develop and retain our people and there has been a growing engagement with learning and development. This role is a new post within the HROD team.
Main purpose of the role
Working closely with the Head of Organisational Development (OD) to ensure that all our employees have the skills, knowledge and competences required to deliver on organisational priorities and plans, by developing, planning, managing and evaluating our organisational learning and development programmes, whether face to face or online. It will mean working closely with managers to define priority development needs, including agreeing the most effective ways of meeting them, and gaining their buy in to actively support development. You will also help us begin to create and develop a learning and coaching culture. You will commission external facilitators and providers, and manage contracts and relationships both internally and externally. You will oversee and support the day to day administration of learning and development activities.

Key Relationships
· The post holder will need to build positive relationships with colleagues across the whole of the HROD team
· They will need to build good working relationships with managers at all levels, and employees.
· There is regular liaison with colleagues within the Commercial Services teams in relation to contract management and due diligence.
· The post holder also needs to positively and proactively manage relationships with learning and development consultants, venue and catering service suppliers.
Main Responsibilities and Duties

1 / Learning and Development
· To work with the Head of OD, the HR business partner and managers to explore development needs in the context of our strategy and priorities and recommend effective ways of meeting identified development needs, taking into account cost and other organisational demands.
· To plan, manage and review the organisational core learning and development programme.
· To develop our online learning portal with a view to driving greater engagement through the creation of effective and interesting blended or online learning, and supporting the development of the skills needed to create great learning content
· To be responsible for proactively developing and maintaining accurate and up to date HROD records of all learning and development events.
· To support and advise the HROD administrator to provide an effective and efficient learning and development admin service.
· To be responsible for developing and maintaining effective working relationships with learning and development consultants, trainers, (including internal facilitators) venue managers and other providers, providing them with timely briefing information as needed, and ensuring that their requirements and needs are met to deliver effective learning events.
· To work with Head of OD or others to commission development events, including monitoring contracts with providers and suppliers so that they deliver in line with agreed outcomes etc.
· To be responsible for proactively co-ordinating the Corporate Induction, including liaising with, scheduling and supporting contributors, pulling together supporting materials etc, facilitating on the day and reviewing feedback and supporting improvements.
· To be responsible for ensuring that employees are booked onto the core and mandatory development programmes
· To support the Head of OD in designing and undertaking impact evaluation methods for learning and development, collating and reporting on outcomes.
· To review all face to face course or coaching feedback and working with contributors and facilitators to drive areas for improvement as necessary to meet identified needs and improve knowledge and skills.
· Responsible for providing reports on learning and development activities, attendance, costs etc.as required for inclusion in quarterly HR Indicator reports, and on an ad hoc basis,
· To develop, design, deliver and review learning and development interventions (either face to face or blended)
3 / Internal Communications and Engagement
· To develop, update and publish content for the intranet as required in line with the post holders key responsibilities, maintaining the agreed look and feel, and ensuring that content is engaging, up to date and accurate.
· To contribute to reviews of content relating to our values, and benefits, on our public website, as required.
3 / Supporting HROD activity:
· To act in line with key organisational policies, procedures and protocols e.g. procurement and due diligence in relation to suppliers, data protection etc.
· To contribute to wider HROD projects, and to attend organisational project groups on behalf of HROD.
· To provide support and advice to employees on all areas of HROD including covering for other member of the HROD team as necessary.
· To proactively develop, improve and support any reviews and/or changes to HROD systems and processes which will drive efficiencies, and to lead on projects as necessary.
· To collate relevant data for inclusion in the quarterly HR Indicator reports and other reports as needed.
