April 9, 2014
Dear Chamber Member,
Did you know that about 562,340 Americans are expected to die of cancer this year? That's more than 1,500 people a day. It’s our employees, family, and friends. People that we know and love.
Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the United States, exceeded only by heart disease. Cancer accounts for nearly 1 out of every 4 deaths in the United States – but it doesn’t have to stay this way.
I invite all Chamber Members and their employees to make a difference and join the Huber Heights Chamber of Commerce and participate in the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Relay For Life (RFL) event to raise vital money for all cancer research. This year marks Huber Heights twelfth year for participating in Relay For Life! The 2014 theme is, “Be Somebody’s Hero”! The community-wide event will be on Saturday, May 17thfrom 4pm - 10pmat Wayne High School, 5400 Chambersburg Huber Heights, Ohio.
What is Relay For Life?
In order to remember those who we have lost and honor those who are courageously battling cancer the American Cancer Society established Relay For Life as a community event where everyone can participate in the fight against cancer. Corporate employees, friends, church groups, and neighbors join together in teams and take turns walking or running on a track throughout this 6-hour event. This event is not a race, therefore participants may casually walk or run at whatever pace they are comfortable. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event—because cancer never sleeps and we won’t stop until we find a cure!
Relay teams of 10-15 people camp out at Wayne High School and enjoy music, dancing, games and picnics while learning about the various types of cancer, prevention, research and advocacy efforts. There is entertainment and fun for people of all ages! The Relay also creates a unique sense of a community of people fighting for a common cause – to cure cancer!
You may wish to support the ACS and help the Huber Heights Relay for Life Committee reach their goal of $27,000 by participating in any of the following activities:
