Building Services Manager

Luther Court is seeking a career minded Building Services Manager to join our leadership team. This is definitely not just an office job you must be able to do a level of hands on repairs and maintenance.

Located in Victoria, Luther Court Society is a 75,000 square foot senior residence made up of 60 complex care beds and 58 independent living apartments, with in-house kitchen and laundry facilities. This is an opportunity to combine the building management skills required for a small full service care home and an apartment complex. We require a self-starter who:

  • comprehends the fundamentals of building services management
  • has an understanding of technical, plumbing, electrical and environmental systems, and is able to perform some level of repair to these systems as specified by their current qualification;
  • has knowledge of all levels of current building codes and willing to keep current with changes,
  • is able to manage big and small building rehabilitation projects as prime contractor keeping good working relationships with on and off site contractors,
  • is knowledgeable and experienced with fire life safety systems, this position is responsible for the nurses call system and all facility emergency and backup systems and disaster planning i.e. fire and natural disasters
  • efficiently manages inventory and stock required for the operation of the facility

The manager is required to participate as a member of the Leadership team by attending meetings and serving on various committees. This position plays a pivotal role on the organization’s Health and Safety Committee.

This position requires the candidate to:

  • be in good health and capable of bending, stooping, heavy lifting, and walking
  • have a current driver’s license
  • be willing to be on call after hours for building maintenance and staffing emergencies
  • be willing to receive a flu vaccination
  • undergo a criminal record check
  • undergo a TB check

The candidate should have the following education, experience and abilities:

Education and Experience

  • Completion of relevant post-secondary education in facilities operations and management from a recognized institution or trade certification or comparable academic studies
  • 4th class building engineer designation or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience in building operations and management
  • Hands on experience in facility repairs and maintenance
  • 2 years supervisory experience preferably in a unionized environment

Demonstrates ability:

  • to communicate and effectively organize department operations,
  • supervise subordinates, and
  • assess the effectiveness of the maintenance program

Ability to establish andmaintain cooperation with all levels of personnel and contractors

Ability to maintain harmonious relations with clients and their families

Present in a manner congruent with the accepted professional standard of the organization.

Proficient use of the computer including the Microsoft suite of software

Salary commensurate with experience
